Winter is the season when your body naturally slows down, and the physical and psychological stressors of cold weather, the holidays and overwork can exhaust your system.

My years of experience with cutting-edge detox have convinced me that to achieve and maintain weight loss and optimal health year-round, you need to integrate more advanced detox techniques beyond just diet and exercise.

High tech cleansing therapies are “hotter” than ever this holiday season. The age-old method of sweating for body purification is especially making a comeback making an infrared sauna a gift for all seasons with a payoff of health and vitality.

Sweating is one of the safest advanced detox techniques for staying healthy. Sweat carries toxins out of the body and pushes them through the pores. Pores on the surface of the skin—the largest organ of the body—play an unexpected role in the cleansing process.

Researchers have identified many toxic substances—including heavy metals—which are secreted from the body through the sweat. The more we can safely sweat (while maintaining adequate hydration), the more toxins can be released.

Sweating in some ways can be compared to fever—Mother Nature’s emergency healing process. Infrared saunas are an effective tool for just that.

In a nutshell, heating up the body in an infrared sauna…
  • Kills microbes and latent viruses.
  • Raises pH to a more alkaline level which makes the body inhospitable for pathogens to survive.
  • Causes fatty tissues to vibrate much faster and then dump toxins like aluminum and mercury into the body’s interstitial fluid, which in turn are released through the skin’s pores.
  • Releases toxic substances like formaldehyde, nicotine, alcohol, and drugs.

Heat therapy has a long history associated with detoxification. In North America, Native Americans turned to sweat lodges for both spiritual and body purification. The Finns, Swedes, and other Scandinavians sweated the winter blues away with steamy saunas. Heat therapy was specifically used to help miners eliminate heavy metal poisoning in the 1950s.

Today, many integrative medical doctors and naturopaths promote the use of the infrared sauna as the most effective way to stimulate gentle but deep cleansing while bathing the body with healing frequencies that enhance overall health and healing.

Infrared is much more thorough than other steam or heat sauna therapies. Infrared energy waves—which are part of the invisible spectrum of light emitted from the sun—can easily penetrate tissue to about three inches deep. By penetrating more deeply, the cleansing impact is dramatically enhanced. Just one session in a far-infrared can increase the metabolic rate to such a degree that you can burn up to 700 calories.

But, don’t Overdo it! Start with a five or ten minute sauna at 135 degrees Fahrenheit three times per week. Gradually work your way up to a 45-minute sauna, and then after a month or so increase the temperature to 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

An important factor not to overlook is a sauna’s potential for EMF exposure—before purchasing or using a sauna regularly, make sure it’s made with steel conduit electrical shielding and ask to see third party testing for EMF exposure inside the sauna. Here’s a sample EMF report, and a good example of what to look for.

That said, not all infrared saunas are created equal!

The infrared heat generated by Sunlighten saunas produces sweat that consists of on average nearly 20% toxins versus only 3% in a traditional sauna which makes detox up to 7 times more effective than in a traditional sauna. They are also proven to raise the core body temperature to over 100 degrees F.—a major factor in the detoxification process. As a result, regular usage provides a deep and detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where toxins reside.

Sunlighten also makes the only full spectrum infrared sauna. Full spectrum infrared consists of near, mid and far wavelengths—all of which provide different health benefits.  Rejuvenating detoxification, circulation, relaxation, enhanced immunity, wound healing, balanced blood pressure, and even weight loss are some of the healthy benefits of good old fashioned sweating through full spectrum infrared therapy.

Gift yourself with a sauna to regenerate for the upcoming year—and the whole family can benefit all year long! Sunlighten is offering generous Holiday Savings on 2013 models, now through Friday, December 20—for more information, visit them online or give them a call at 877-292-0020.
