Is Adult Stem Cell Therapy the New Fountain of Youth?

Jul 13, 2020

Many “incurables” are claiming that adult stem cell therapy has healed them of their ills – but is it hope or hype?

There is an astounding number of chronic illnesses with no permanent cure. Think about it – if you have osteoarthritis and take away your pain relievers, all of your symptoms return, and on top of that, it gets worse over time. If you’ve had a stroke you can work to regain some function, but usually live with a lifetime of functional impairment of some degree. Lessening the symptoms of an illness without curing it is called palliative care, and it’s unfortunately all we’ve got for a whole host of ills.

Yet, here we are, with superhero cells of unlimited potential waiting in our bone marrow, and we can’t seem to figure out how to tap into their healing potential. That is, until now. According to Dr. Natesh Parashurama, one of the nation’s top stem cell researchers and lead author of more than 30 studies on them, “Nearly all chronic disease could be addressed by stem cells. The potential is infinite.”

Do you remember what it was like when you were a kid? In childhood, we bounced back quickly from so many illnesses and injuries that, had we sustained them in adulthood, would have set us back permanently. That’s because we hold within our bodies stem cells that are the ultimate natural cure – but the older we get the more their production and responsiveness slows down. So, if we want the same healing power our stem cells had in our youth, then we need to stimulate their production and activate them.

Can stem cells truly be our own fountain of youth? My answer is a resounding yes! And there are several ways to encourage their production and activation in your own body.

While there are countless diseases and chronic conditions that have been helped by adult stem cell therapy, today I want to take a deeper look at how they’re used to combat one of the most common and one of the most debilitating conditions we face – osteoarthritis and post-stroke symptoms. First, let’s talk about what adult stem cell therapy entails.

What is Adult Stem Cell Therapy?

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, your body is using adult stem cells to repair and renew damaged cells. Adult stem cells are strategically located throughout your body from the time you’re an embryo. They continue to be produced throughout your entire lifetime, but the production slows as we age. Not only that, but they become harder to activate as we age, too.

These stem cells have unlimited potential – they can be used to build whatever tissue your body is in need of at the time they’re call into service. Scientists have found stem cells in your brain, liver, skin, muscles, bone marrow, blood, and blood vessels. When your body activates stem cells, they divide and regenerate to do everything from healing a skin wound to regenerating an entire organ.

Adult stem cell therapy includes everything that stimulates the production and activation of your body’s own stem cells to stimulate healing of a cell, tissue, or organ. This can be as simple as fasting, or as complicated as harvesting bone marrow for a stem cell transplant. The type of therapy you need depends on the illness you’re facing.

Overcoming Osteoarthritis and Putting the Pep Back In Your Step

Jack Nicklaus made his career from the sport he loved – golf. But debilitating back pain that started at age 19 stayed with him through 59 years of his career – until it was too much to play through. He spent most of his adult life in excruciating pain – until he met stem cell pioneer, Dr. Eckhard Alt.

Dr. Alt used liposuction to harvest abdominal fat cells and grow out the golfer’s own stem cells. He was able to preserve more than 75 million stem cells from just 3 ounces of fat! He then purified and injected these into Nicklaus’ back in a series of 14 treatments.

Jack didn’t feel relief right away, but over the course of the treatment he found his back felt better than it ever had in his adult life. In fact, it worked so well that he sought treatment for his shoulder arthritis as well. And just to show you that this treatment has no age limit for effectiveness, he was 78 years old when it was complete.

One of the hurdles to discovering adult stem cell therapy was the paradigm shift that needed to happen. Until recently, doctors believed articular cartilage, the cushion in our hip, knee and ankle joints, could not be repaired once it was injured. The job of this protective covering over the ends of our bones is to cushion our joints from the pressure we exert on them, so when it wears down we suffer with what’s known as the “wear and tear” arthritis, or osteoarthritis.

Thanks to the work of doctors at Stanford like Constance Chu, MD, we have discovered that articular cartilage slowly repairs itself over about a year – given rest and the nutrients it needs. That’s good news to the 27 million arthritis sufferers in the US alone. Before your turn to joint replacements of any kind, start by avoiding the medications that inhibit healing, while feeding your joints the nutrients they need to heal, and then consider biologic therapies like adult stem cell therapy.

Boosting Your Brainpower After a Stroke with Adult Stem Cells

Suffering a stroke – and surviving – is one of the most debilitating things you can experience. Depending on the severity of the stroke, many people find themselves with only the use of one side of their body, struggling with speech, coordination, balance, and memory, among other things. While physical, occupational, and speech therapy can improve your mobility and ability to communicate, people rarely feel even close to their prior functioning once the therapy is done.

Dr. Gary Steinberg sought to change all of that through his Stanford University study. He took 18 volunteer patients with severely impaired functioning post-stroke, harvested stem cells from their bone marrow, and injected them into their brain under anesthesia. What happened next was nothing short of a miracle.

The improvement was instantaneous. Patients woke up from the anesthesia and moved limbs that previously hung limp and spoke clearly when they had been unable to speak. According to Dr. Steinberg, “Patients who were in wheelchairs are walking now.” The researchers nicknamed them “Lazarus patients.”

Fortunately, few of us have suffered something as severe as a stroke. Most people with chronic illnesses are healthy enough that we can start by stimulating our stem cells at home to produce the results we need.

5 Things You Can Do At Home to Stimulate Your Stem Cells

Stimulating your adult stem cells once you’re suffering from a chronic illness may sound like a tall order to fill, but it’s surprisingly simple to start with. Your stem cells and their innate healing power want to reach full capacity, so it can be as simple as providing them with the building blocks they need through these 5 steps:

  1. Introduce Intermittent Fasting

Even during a short-term fast, your body turns to fats for fuel, which boost your intestinal stem cell function. Because of the strong connection between your intestines and your immune system, the positive effects are felt not only with digestion but also immunity. According to MIT researchers, this one dietary change is enough to reverse age-related stem cell decline.

  1. Lower Your Blood Sugar

Most stem cell therapies require you to have a Hemoglobin A1c done beforehand to measure your blood sugars, because elevated blood sugar decreases the lifespan and number of adult stem cells in the body. The optimal A1c for your stem cells is 5.1 or less.

  1. Add Organ Meats and Bone Marrow to Your Diet

Organ meats are rich in vitamin K2, which has been shown in studies to activate the stem cells in your blood and bone marrow. Start with grassfed goose liver, which tops the list of stem cell boosting foods. Or, if roasting bones with marrow appeals to you more, use the bone marrow like butter and spread it over your favorite savory foods. It’s not only anti-inflammatory, rich in collagen, and high in vitamin B12, but it’s also loaded with natural stem cell activators.

  1. Avoid the Drugs that Sabotage Stem Cells

One of the most common treatments for painful joints is steroid injections, but steroids in any form should be avoided for healthy stem cells. This group of medications reduces the adult stem cells’ ability to transform into the tissue they’re needed for. Also harmful are the quinolone antibiotics, including Cipro and Levaquin. These drugs are harmful to the stem cells of the ligaments and tendons.

  1. Supplement with Stem Cell Activators

As we age, even when our bodies send the signals for repairs that are needed, fewer cells are able to respond and activate. There are 3 main nutrients you can use to help: vitamin C may increase the number of stem cells in bone marrow, vitamin D3 can help reverse the stem cell aging process while helping them to activate when needed, and resveratrol can help stem cells multiply and differentiate into different types of tissue.

Beyond the basics, one of the most promising new line of products I’ve found are the stem cell activators from Medix4Life. Their formulas contain the regulatory proteins that activate your body’s own stem cell response. These non-toxic serums are specific to the tissues and organs they target – heart, lungs, brain, ligaments, joints and tendons, endocrine system – virtually any part of your body that needs repair and rejuvenation.

Another reason to get off sugar! I’ve never fasted but this looks interesting. It sounds like increasing stem cells is possible by making some changes.

Amazing to know about helping the brain after a stroke. My dad has suffered lots of TIA’s. I don’t know if he’d be a candidate.
