As many of you may or may not know, I am a Columbia University trained nutritionist, award winning New York Times bestselling author of 30 books, wife, mother to a terrific 31-year-old stepdaughter, functional and integrative medicine advocate, former music teacher, model and go-go dancer (yes), and pioneer.

I have been on the front lines of health and healing now for well over 30 years warning how low fat can make you fat and why the right fats are the key to igniting effortless weight loss, crushing sugar cravings, stoking energy, promoting longevity, and insuring overall good health.

You see, unlike so many others who write about fats today, I was actually there at the beginning of the fat-free, no-to-low fat craze. Back in the early 80s I was the director of the Pritikin Longevity Center in Santa Monica, California. I saw firsthand the promises and pitfalls of a high carb/fat free diet program including weight gain, feeling hungry all the time and problems with hair, skin, nails, thyroid and the immune system.

Ever since 1988 and the publication of my first book, I have been a lone voice in the nutrition wilderness condemning fat-free, carb rich diets. Since then my work has been highly criticized by conventional dietitians, doctors, and newspaper journalists who believed that fats should be demonized and carbohydrates reigned supreme.

I was even later profiled on the prime time news magazine show 20/20. But just as steel is forged by fire, I remained true to my beliefs while so many of my more conventional colleagues were full of condemnation and doubt. All of this made me grow stronger, more resilient and more determined than ever to get the truth out.

So, you can just imagine how very gratified—as well as vindicated—I feel to finally see that my message about fats is becoming mainstream and is even touted as “new news.”

And that’s why I decided to revise and update my 1999 book Eat Fat Lose Weight, launching December 1, 2015 (now available for pre-order). It fills in where my popular Fat Flush left off since I have now had the advantage of over 15 years of so much more expanded research and personal clinical experience.

    I hope you can help me. I have been on powerful pain meds for 13 years. Fight with awful constipation due to all the meds i take. And just this past 6 months i have put on 60 lbs,kept going to my dr telling him something was wrong and finally 2 weeks ago he finnaly tested my thyroid. Sure enough he has put put me on Armour Thyroid meds. Now i have that to deal with alond with the cronic nerve pain in lower back.

      Sally, I’m sorry you are dealing with these issues. I’ve found that the Super-GI Cleanse is a very effective remedy for constipation. You may wish to give it a try.     I am about to set off on the Fat Flush plan once again. In all of my years of trying to diet-
    it has been the only one that I have ever found success with. After losing 25 pounds and
    feeling like two million dollars five years ago, I caved into the pressures of life and am now sitting with
    cholesterol readings in the three hundreds and about 30pounds to lose. I am wondering what
    updates there may have been to the basic plan? And also, if you have no gall bladder-which of
    these do you recommend? Ox Bile, TCP and Liver-Lovin Formula??? I could use some direction
    with this. Thanks so much!

      Hi Nancy, I’m so glad you are again doing Fat Flush. Many people with higher cholesterol report that doing the Fat Flush Plan has helped lower their numbers. The foods, healthy fats and fiber on the plan really work wonders. One update is that Ann Louise now recommends chia seeds as an alternative to the cold milled flax seeds. Also, the only grain friendly carb in phase 2 is the sprouted grain tortilla now.

      Liver Loving Formula is a powerful aid to the liver and will help keep the bile flowing. Cholacol, which is bile salts, helps digest fat when you no longer have a gallbladder.
