I know I need to start eating breakfast to lose my extra 50 pounds, but the only thing I can get down in the morning is a cup of coffee. Can you suggest a solution?

Most women who can’t stomach breakfast have higher-than-normal levels of serotonin in the morning. This hormone dampens appetite, making breakfast unappetizing. To complicate matters those high serotonin levels start to fall midday, which triggers hunger and often leads to afternoon and evening overeating.

The goal is to normalize your serotonin levels so you don’t get those highs and lows. To do that, you need to consume a dose of healthy fat, carbs, and protein before 10 AM. A liquid meal should be easier to stomach. I suggest a smoothie with whey protein powder, 1 tbs. of chia seeds or flaxseeds, 1 cup of frozen fruit, water, ice and stevia to taste. In one study, dieters who had a whey shake for breakfast lost 136 percent more weight than shake skippers.
