Beware of Fattening Prescriptions

Four ways to fix estrogen overload from drugs.

Weight loss used to be a relatively simple matter of just diet and exercise ten years ago. Not so, now. Today you are in a 24/7 battle against fake estrogens that act as “obesogens” creating stubborn weight gain you can’t control. And it’s not your fault!

Environmentally-induced estrogen overload is making your body stockpile more fat and fluid resulting in a metabolic slow down. Your system can’t metabolize fats or sugars like it should which means more water retention, bloating and weight gain. Those nasty estrogen mimics overpower your body’s natural defenses leading to polycystic ovaries, fibroid tumors, endometriosis, asthma, allergies, chronic fatigue and even autoimmune disorders like arthritis.

Symptoms like severe mood swings, irritability, anxiety, and depression are becoming hallmarks of estrogen toxicity with massive deficiencies of B vitamins, magnesium, and zinc following close behind.

If any of this sounds familiar, then listen up: You can heal and reset metabolism with four easy steps that will also harmonize your hormones.

Four Estrogen Overload Fixes

1) Take an inventory of your doctor’s prescriptions—probably the sneakiest way xenoestrogens gain entry into your system. Both the birth control pill and all forms of hormone replacement therapy (including synthetic and even bio-identical) can introduce hormone “fakes” or too much estrogen in your body. The bad news is that the xenoestrogens are now being found in drinking water and current water purification methods can’t break them down—and neither can your body if you don’t support your liver’s daily ability to detox successfully by promoting healthy bile.

And even if you don’t take or never have used any birth control or HRT, you are still being exposed to residues in water that you may be drinking or bathing in. In 2009 CBS came out with a report that probed pharmaceuticals in drinking water and found fairly high levels of both street drugs and prescription drugs in the water of our largest cities.

So, whatever you do, consider a whole house water filtration system or at least a chlorine-blocking shower filter—since the skin is the most prevalent way these false estrogens get into the body and wreak havoc. You also will need to support your body’s bile production—the body’s method of ridding your system of hormone buildup. The product Bile Builder is what I recommend to my clients or find a comparable formula with the same basic ingredients. Vegans can consider herbal bitters like gentian and dandelion root.

2) Try to avoid all sources of toxic estrogens: parabens in skincare products, phthalates in plastics, chlorine in water, Bisphenol A in plastic bottles, BHA preservative, food coloring FD&C Red No. 3, and sunscreen chemicals. Find natural replacements for your personal care products and eat organic, GMO-free please.

3) Consider natural progesterone to balance estrogen overload. Progesterone can help balance mood swings and offset irritability and insomnia because more progesterone is located in the brain than any other place. Many women lose their progesterone stores due to zinc deficiencies in the diet (think zinc with organic beef, eggs, and pumpkin seeds). I like a topical cream that bypasses the liver. That’s why I formulated ProgestaKey. But, as long as your own topical cream provides 20 mg of USP progesterone per day, you are golden.

4) If you are taking anti-anxiety meds or antidepressants, you are not off the hook. Many of these (Prozac, Paxil, Celexa, Zoloft, Lexapro) create weight gain. A shot of Depo-Provera can create a 30-pound weight gain in some women, all by itself. So, in addition to the bile building supplement mentioned above, consider help for the thyroid—your body’s metabolic gland. More iodine in the form of Iodoral (1-4 tablets daily) or daily kelp granules on food and/or Maine-harvested sea veggies can help.

Does Ann Louise believe in a grain free diet?

Ann Louise has not included many grains in her programs because so many people have allergies to them. Grains can also have issues with mold. She does have certain ones in phase 2 and phase 3 of the Fat Flush Plan.
