As a society, we seem to be so disconnected. We view moments happening right in front of us through the screen of a phone while we snap photos, we spend our “social time” online, and we don’t get out and about in the great outdoors nearly as much as we’d like.

As you’d imagine, this is taking a toll on our health and well-being.

Most of us are unaware that direct physical contact with the Earth transfers natural grounding effects—also called ”Vitamin G.” This process of “grounding” is considered by many to be a critical missing link to health and overall wellness.

Implications of A Disconnected Body

Science has proven that the Earth is teeming with negatively charged electrons. A detachment from these electrons can cause a whole host of problems, including restless nights that lead to lethargic days, seemingly ceaseless stress (along with stress eating), and inflammation—the culprit in chronic health problems from obesity to cardiovascular disease to cancer.

How?

When connected to the Earth, these electrons—nature’s most abundant source of anti-inflammatories—act as antioxidants and instantaneously begin to neutralize the positively-charged free radicals that create inflammation, stress, and disease.

Fluctuating cortisol levels is a key reason behind poor sleep. A lack of sleep then increases more of the stress hormone, stimulating hunger, which interferes with the body’s ability to breakdown carbohydrates properly, thereby leading to sleep-deprived weight gain. But when you’re regularly grounded, you body has assistance to stabilize your cortisol levels.

In fact, researchers in a groundbreaking study in the Journal of Complementary and Alternative Medicine wrote that “Grounding the human body to the Earthing (‘Earthing’) during sleep reduces nighttime levels of cortisol and resynchronizes cortisol hormone secretion more in alignment with the natural 24-hour circadian rhythm pattern.”

Reconnect for Your Health

When we feel like we need to clear our minds and re-center ourselves, you might think of metaphoric phrases like “getting back to our roots,” or “coming back down to Earth.” In this case, it’s much more literal.

While it’s highly recommended for your well-being to get outside and take in nature, even a beautiful hike won’t necessarily give you a good dose of “Vitamin G” because we no longer walk barefoot or wear hides on our feet. Leather soled shoes which permit the conduction of the Earth’s natural electrons are becoming more and more a thing of the past, and they have been replaced with synthetic plastic or rubber soles.

So, while a stroll out in nature is good for the soul, it won’t give you the same healing qualities that placing your bare feet on a plush spread of grass does. But what about those hot summer days (or overly chilly summer nights) that coax us inside? And, although it’s a nice idea, we certainly can’t sleep under the stars every night.     Oh, how I wish I were sleeping soundly each and every night on my Earthing fitted sheet, but sadly, it has made not a whit of difference for either my husband nor myself. We are sure disappointed and don’t understand what happened!

    Daar Amy and Anna: We have read your comments with interest. While we can’t definitively tell you why sleep hasn’t improved, we would suggest that you consider removing all digital devices from the bedroom, unplug all electrical devices, sleep at 65 degrees temperature-wise and consider using a wrist band for a better ground. The sheets work IF you sleep on them with bare skin! You might also work on your cortisol levels by taking extra magnesium before bed and 1/4 tsp. sea salt in water to lower acidity. Get in bed by 10 PM and hopefully you both will be stacking ZZZs in no time!a

      Thank you for your reply! I have added in the 1/4 t sea salt before bed and it seems to help a bit. I believe that, unfortunately, I was just made to be a light, poor sleeper. I do everything in the world, it seems, to help with my sleep but it still isn’t good. I may take the hormone saliva test that Unikey offers next. I’m a 50 year old woman, FYI, but not in menopause yet.

    I’ve read that the earthing sheets don’t work for very long with washing, and they are expensive. Have you looked into this issue and know how long they will actually work? Thanks!

    I slept very well on my earthing sheet. I used the product tester to make sure it was working after each wash. They are designed to last for 100 washings.

    I have very exciting news about my earthing experience so far….
    I am a redhead with very fair skin. AT 57, I have had crusty little
    actinic keratosis (precancerous spots) on the back of my hand, a few on chest and shoulders
    for decades.
    Since I began earthing over a month ago, I noticed they were “acting up”. They were becoming harder little scabs…I thought oh Jeez,I better go get these things burnt off again…
    But then I started picking them off–and now they are totally gone!! There is nothing else to attribut this to.
    No change in diet–nothing. If this is happening to my skin, what wonders is it working
    inside me? I use the orange bands on my ankles…and a half sheet, too. I’m happy-
    fortunately I’ve generally slept well even before earthing, but do need less sleep now.
