Does this ever happen to you?
You read the same paragraph three times and still can’t recall what you just read.
You walk into a room and stand there, trying to remember why you are there.
Or the second cup of coffee is gone, and the fog hasn’t budged.
After a bad night, even the easy things can feel like work.
But here’s what recently caught my eye. Creatine, the supplement most people file under muscle support, may also help a sleep-deprived brain.
Why?
Your brain runs on energy, and it uses a LOT of it. Creatine helps restock ATP, the fuel your cells burn. It can reach the brain, but the door is narrow, which is why these findings are worth a look.
In a small 2024 study, sleep-deprived adults took one high dose of creatine monohydrate. Researchers reported better thinking and faster processing, along with changes in how the brain was using energy.
A 2026 follow-up with 29 healthy adults found benefits at a lower dose, too. Reasoning, processing speed, and attention held up better than they did without it.
The earlier study used 0.35 grams per kilogram of body weight. For someone at 150 pounds, that is about 24 grams.
Those were study doses of creatine monohydrate, not a daily plan, and no capsule replaces a real night of sleep. But it you want a convenient place to start, I suggest CON-CRĒT Creatine HCl. It is available in my Fullscript catalog. Each capsule is 750 mg. Follow the label, and check with your practitioner first if you have kidney trouble or take medication.
Guard your sleep first. Then keep an eye on creatine. It may have a job outside the gym.
