I come from a long line of diabetics.
On my father’s side of the family, it wasn’t unusual — it was expected. My grandmother Anna, the woman I was named after. Uncles. First cousins. I watched what unstable blood sugar does over time.
And it’s one of the reasons I chose the career I did.
In my heart of hearts, I would dearly love to wipe out diabetes once and for all.
Watching it unfold in my own family permanently changed the way I think about blood sugar — and what real prevention requires.
Here’s what I’ve learned.
Blood Sugar Trouble Doesn’t Start With a Diagnosis
It starts quietly.
A little more hunger than you used to feel.
A little more weight around the middle.
Energy that dips mid-afternoon.
Cravings that feel harder to ignore.
Today, more than one in three adults has prediabetes — and most don’t know it. Insulin resistance can develop years before glucose levels ever look abnormal.
I believe that’s the real issue.
What Science Understands Today That It Didn’t Then
Sometimes I think about how different things might have been if my grandmother — and so many other family members — had access to the metabolic insights we have today.
We’re now having conversations about hormones like GLP-1 that simply weren’t part of the discussion in her time.
The Foundational Issue Most GLP-1 Conversations Overlook
GLP-1 works by sending a signal that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar.
But what happens when the body no longer responds to that signal the way it once did?
If insulin has been elevated for years…
If your cells have become less sensitive…
If fuel can’t easily move from the bloodstream into the cell…
Then simply boosting GLP-1 isn’t enough.
Because the issue isn’t the signal itself — it’s the body’s ability to respond to it.
Here’s what I’ve learned.
You Must Restore the Terrain Before You Amplify the Signal
When I wrote The Fat Flush Reboot, my focus wasn’t simply on suppressing appetite — it was on restoring the entire metabolic terrain: improving insulin sensitivity, calming chronic inflammation, supporting liver detoxification, balancing hormones, and strengthening mitochondrial energy production.
That same philosophy led to the development of UNI KEY’s new GLP-1 Formula.
At the heart of the formula is dihydroberberine — a highly bioavailable form of berberine studied for its ability to improve insulin sensitivity and enhance glucose uptake at the cellular level.
Standard berberine has long been respected in metabolic research, but it can be difficult to absorb and often requires higher doses that may upset digestion. Dihydroberberine is converted more efficiently in the body, allowing for meaningful systemic levels with gentler dosing.
But even the best ingredient cannot help if it isn’t properly absorbed.
That’s why we also included AstraGin®, a clinically studied botanical compound designed to enhance nutrient absorption. Its role is simple but critical: help ensure that the active ingredients reach the bloodstream effectively.
Changing the Story Before It’s Too Late
If we address metabolic dysfunction early — before it turns into diagnosis, medication, or irreversible decline — we don’t just manage disease.
We change the trajectory.
That’s why this conversation matters so deeply to me.
I’ve seen what happens when blood sugar instability goes unchecked, and I watched loved ones suffer the consequences.
I believe that if we understand the terrain sooner — if we improve insulin sensitivity, support cellular energy, and correct the metabolic imbalance at its roots — the story can unfold differently.
And that is a story I am determined to help change.
If you or someone you love is struggling with high blood sugar, I invite you to take a healthier step forward.

HI Ann Louise,
I have been following you and the discoveries you have made since 2000. I found out about your incredible devotion to women’s health through Joanie Gregins in 2000. I am a regular customer to the Unikey product line and appreciate the effort that goes into creating healthy supplements that Unikey produces under your guidance. I am finding that as I continue my journey on aging that surprises about my bodies changes happen almost every day. I will be turning 82 in May of this year. I tried the GLP-1 supplement and started with 2 caps 15 mins before eating breakfast, then 1 before lunch and 1 before dinner, the first day I felt nauseated and felt horrible. On the second day I lowered the dose to 1-morn, 1-lun, 0-din. I felt so horrible on the second day I decide to stop taking the supplement.
Is this a normal reaction to this supplement? I decided to try to it because I cannot seem to lose the 10 pounds I have gained over the last 5 years. My weight seems to hang around 137 for the last 5 years. However, that weight is way overweight I am small frame and 5′ tall. Thanks for any suggestions you might have, a consultation, or what ever. I am very frustrated. When I started taking GLP-1, I stopped taking supplements, except for mag-key and Osteo. I am moderately active: step class twice a week, Elliptical trainer twice a week, and walking the other days. Please advise on my next steps, stop GLP-1 or only take one day? Thank you in advance Elaine
Elaine, thank you for being with me all these years, and happy early 82nd birthday! That’s wonderful. What you experienced isn’t uncommon. Some women — especially petite or more blood-sugar sensitive — can feel nauseated if the dose is too high. Four capsules may simply have been too much for your system. In your case, I recommend just one capsule before your largest meal and see how you feel for several days before adjusting. Berberine can also be detoxifying so I suggest you make sure you are well hydrated, have enough salt in your system and only take the supplement 10 minutes before you eat. And don’t forget — stopping your other supplements at the same time may also have contributed. You’re doing so many things right. Let’s approach this gently and individually — a brief consultation with the team might be very helpful. Contact [email protected] to schedule. — Team ALG (on behalf of Ann Louise)
