Tick bites are far more common than most people realize.
According to Science Insights, an estimated 31 million people in the U.S. experience a tick bite each year—making them one of the most frequent outdoor health concerns in the country. And if you’ve ever checked the CDC’s tick tracker, you’ll see the pattern clearly:
Tick bites spike in the spring—and stay elevated through summer.
Now, I’m not about to tell you to avoid the outdoors.
Fresh air, sunshine, and movement are essential for your health.
But protection?
That matters too.
Here’s a simple, effective DIY tick repellent blend you can make at home using essential oils known for their natural insect-repelling properties:
Tick Repellent Blend
- 20 drops Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (strongest evidence)
- 15 drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil (good traditional tick repellent)
- 10 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil (helps repel crawling insects)
- 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil (supportive, calming to skin)
- 2 oz witch hazel or vodka
- 1 oz distilled water
Directions: Mix together, shake and spray on clothing, socks, shoes, and exposed skin (patch test first).
