  3. My Famous Fat Flush Soup Recipe

My Famous Fat Flush Soup Recipe

100317486Fall is “Soup Season” and my Famous Fat Flush Soup recipe is one of the all-time fan favorite recipes.  Why?  Because it’s easy, delicious, and filling, but most of all, because it works!Celebrate the flavors of fall.

Savor all of the flavors of fall while melting away pesky pounds and inches with this one simple soup.

Introduced in Woman’s World Magazine (October 3, 2011), issues quickly disappeared from newsstands across the country as determined dieters were ready for a “yummy” soup that’s a perfect meal the whole family will love when Fall nips the air.  And the recipe remains a popular choice even today with thousands of views each and every month.

Inspired by a study at Penn State that found eating soup can trigger you to consume up to 448 fewer calories per meal, this satisfying soup is an easy go-to recipe to help jumpstart long term weight control.

For those of you new to Fat Flush, the soup serves as a delicious entrée (pun intended) into the world of Fat Flush – a “pre-flush” if you will.

The results speak for themselves: One New Hampshire Woman’s World reader lost 11 lbs in one week, and another shed a whopping 10 lbs in just three days! Others dropped 6, 7, even 11 lbs within a week. Find out how much you’ll lose with this super-filling recipe:

SoupFat Flush Soup

2 tsp. olive oil
1 ¼ lbs lean ground beef, turkey or shredded chicken
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 bell pepper, seeded and chopped
8 oz. mushrooms, chopped
1 (14 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
1 (32 oz.) bottle reduced-sodium tomato or vegetable cocktail juice
1 Tbs. fresh lemon juice
1 (14 oz.) can black, navy or pinto beans, rinsed and drained
1 Tbs. ground cumin
1/8 tsp. cayenne, or to taste
¼ cup each fresh cilantro and parsley, chopped

  1. In stockpot, heat olive oil over medium-high setting. Sauté meat/poultry until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté onion, garlic, peppers and mushrooms until soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in remaining ingredients, except cilantro and parsley. Cover and simmer 20 minutes. Stir in cilantro and parsley.
  4. Cover; simmer 10 minutes longer. Store soup in refrigerator up to 5 days. Freezes well. Make 12-14 cups. 1 serving = 3 cups.

A Tip from our Fat Flush test kitchen: For a chunkier soup, add a 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes.

Note: We have made small tweaks in the recipe (the type of beans that work best, for example)  for added clarity after receiving thousands of emails from dieters with common questions after making the soup.

After a week or so on the Fat Flush Soup Diet, move on to my classic Fat Flush program, outlined in my book, The Fat Flush Plan. If you have 50 or more pounds to lose, head to Phase 1. If you have less than 50 pounds to lose, head to Phase 2.

Note for Veteran Fat Flushers: For those of you currently following my classic Fat Flush program, please note the soup recipe would be most appropriate for Phase 3. If you are currently following Phase 1 or Phase 2, omit the beans from the soup recipe to stay on-plan.

Is soup “on” at your house yet?

  1. Louise,

Can you recommend substitutions for both the bell peppers and mushrooms in the soup recipe? I just cannot eat either of these foods. I do like other veggies, squash, peas, love celery. Would these work? Thanks

  2. As someone who is suffering from adrenal fatigue, I have been told to eat protein, carbs and fats every three hours to keep my insulin stable. While I understand how important it is to keep my insulin levels in check, I feel like everyday I get heavier and heavier. All just a part of adrenal fatigue I’m told.

How amazing that I can make this soup to nibble on for lunch, and in between meals, and know I am getting everything I need everytime I am supposed to eat. I know it is very difficult to lose weight while suffering from adrenal fatigue, but if I am to lose weight while on this, I just may have to kiss you Dr. Ann Louise!!

  3. I know someone last week asked what vegetarians are suppose to do with this soup. Is there a way to enjoy this minus meat beef, turkey, or shredded chicken. I find it hard to believe this wasn’t a consideration since there are so many of us. I’m not vegan, but vegetarian, and would love a suggestion.

  4. i don’t eat meat either – and tofu seems like it would not work here.

    please post alternatives if possible.

    thanks!

  5. I have a suggestion as far as tofu, but we will have to check with Ann Louise to see if it’s appropriate here. I would take one pound (or more)firm tofu – crumble it with hands and saute in a non-stick or iron skillet till dried out enough that it has consistency of cooked ground chicken. Then it will hold in the soup! I have also baked in oven. I think you can use a bit of cooking oil spray. Ann Louise?
I also know brown rice and the beans are a complete protein, but it may be too many carbs…

  6. Can omit the mushrooms if you would prefer. We love celery ,string beans, and zucchini so these would work well if you cannot tolerate or do not like the veggies that were part of the original recipe. The tofu – a la Mary Ann’s recipe would be fine as a substitute to the animal protein. You can also double up on the beans – but omit the brown rice – and instead sprinkle each serving with some parmesan cheese or asiago cheese to complement the beans for the vegetarians.

  7. Have been a fan for years….this is the best tasting soup I have ever eaten! Added a big bunch of organic spinach, and lots of cumin…yummy….3 lbs lost first day.
Thank you so much for being the most powerful advocate for health and weight management on this planet.

  8. Is it possible to speed up weight loss when you do not have a thyroid gland—my TSH levels are normal right now –last year I was so hypothyroid that I gained lots of weight I need to lose now—

  9. My husband really loved this soup too -and he’s skinny! I added low sodium chicken broth. Also a tsp each of turmeric, celery seeds; additional garlic. Crushed tortilla chips on top. It’s a keeper (and not a diet recipe). Thanks!

  10. Ladies: We are currently looking for women who have lost sizeable amounts of weight or inches on Fat Flush Diet Soup. I would like to print this recipe. Is there a reason it won’t let me?

Sandy, the best way to print this recipe is to highlight and copy the portions you want to print, then paste it into a Word document, and then print it. That way you don’t get all the extra stuff in the post.

  12. Just love this soup. I’ve added mixed vegies, celery and zuchinni. Instead of the low-sodium tomato juice or vegatable juice (I have to keep the sodium very low) I used No Salt added Chicken Broth and an 8oz of no salt added tomato sauce. And Yummmmmy! Have not lost the weight yet. I’ve tried so many diets, I’m really hoping this will work. I also have the Smoothies for breakfast those are so good. Would adding Low Carb yogurt to the smoothie work? I like my smoothies with the yogurt. I am not a fan of Greek yogurt.
Thank you for a delicious soup!

  13. Can someone please help. Second day on soup diet and I feel bloated and constipated. I think I follwed the recipe correctly and it is delcious. But should I add anything more?

  14. Paula: We would suggest that you increase your magnesium intake which will be helpful to combat constipation. The beans may be making your bloated so add more cayenne which helps to neutralize the gas for many sensitive individuals.\

  15. We are running a contest on FaceBook. Just go to facebook.com/annlouisegittleman and share a picture of you with your soup. Here are the details to post a picture:

Team ALG here: To post a picture for the contest, at the top of the page where it has the “share” box to post on the wall, choose “photo” instead of status – this will allow you to post a photo (upload from your computer)! Hope that helps!

  16. I followed the receipe exactly from the Women’s Day article but it made only 9 cups. The receipe in Women’s Day states that it makes 16 cups. This receipe on this site states that it makes 12-14 cups. Did anyone else experience this shortage? Any suggestions?

  17. I omitted the meat and stir a scoop of protein powder into my individual bowl instead. I learned this trick from Tony Horton’s P90X recipes.

  18. Can we add cabbage and omit the mushrooms? Also are the beans listed the only beans we can use? Chickpeas or blackeyed peas possibly? Or a combination maybe?

  19. Yes – can add cabbage and omit mushrooms, Destiny. Can use chickpeas (garbanzos and/or balckeyed peas) and a combination if you choose. Just remember, the darker the bean, the more mineral content – which will ultimately help with overall health and wellness.

  20. How much do you consider a serving of the soup? Is it 8 ounces? It sounds like a great diet and we plan to start next week.

  21. I lost 9 lbs in 4 days!!!!……The soup tastes great. Thanks for the suggestion for adding more crushed tomatoes to add to the serving total. I was coming up short too on the amount of cups that it should make according to the recipe. I would like to hear more about the kind of reactions that people are experiencing from eating the soup like. More bathroom runs, sweating, etc. I guess this is all normal. Not complaining, just glad to see the weight loss.

  22. This soup is great, my husband and I are both trying it out my only questions are that I am using all fresh ingredients, beans tomatoes and in the magazine it did not list what kind of beans to use so does it matter? and using fresh is ok correct?

  23. I have lost 8 lbs in 4 days. I make the soup with kidney and black beans, also some combination of chili beans works. I don’t change a thing, it tastes good as it is. I’m telling eveyone that I know about the soup and my weight loss results.

  24. The soup is on at our house! We are on our second pot, which we agree is tastier than the first pot was. Tried the spicy vegetable juice the first time out, love it, and this pot we went with the original. We didn’t have the cilantro the first time though.

I have dropped 4 pounds so far. However, I think I need to buy the book to keep myself on the plan. I just read some posts and found out I need to be drinking cranberry juice with flax seeds, and lemon water in the morning… oops, haven’t done either one!

The magazine article was a great way to put this diet into the mainstream. Good luck to all!

  25. Hey, 4 friends and I are starting this tomorrow. We are going to see who loses the most weight at the end of a week. 🙂 should be fun! I plan to blog about it as we go through the week. I will let you know much we lose! I am so excited…

  26. Sounds awesome Jessica! I’m doing it too, and I’d love to hear your results 🙂 I haven’t weighed yet today, but on day 2 I had already lost 4 pounds!

Joyce- Bison sounds so yummy! Its a very lean meat and if grass fed contains bunches of belly-burning CLA!!

Pam- it would be fine to reserve 1 cup for a snack 🙂

  27. This soup is really delicious. I just started on it today. I like to keep track of my calories, etc. Does anyone know the approximate nutrition numbers for one serving of this soup?

  28. Char- plain water is good. You can also have cran-water (1 oz pure unsweetened cranberry juice to 7 oz water), roasted dandelion root tea, or one cup of organic brewed coffee.

  29. Having type 1 diabetes, it would be so helpful to know the carbohydrate count on 1 serving (3 cups). What is the Carb. count?

  30. Unlimited veggies with the exception of the very starchy ones: peas, winter squash, cooked carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams….

We ar enot calorie counters so cannot help in that department. Dr. ALG believes in the hormonal response of food whereby balancing insulin (fat promoting) with glucagon(fat burning) is the key.

Cran water question? 64 ounces per day will make cellulite go away.

one cup coffee – black would be AOK, by the way..

  31. The soup is excellent! Taste almost like chili. I wished I had not subsituted diced tomatoes for crushed tomatoes. I do not like the consistance of a chucky tomato. I know better next time and will use the dark red kidney beans instead of the white. Just ate my first bowl for lunch today not weight lose report as of yet.

  32. I was reading the The Complete Fat Flush Soup Diet and I bought the magazine Womans World and it says for breakfast as one of the choices to eat was 2 eggs plus 2 egg white, 1/2 cup mixed veggies and 2 Tbs. shredded low fat cheese scrambled with cooking spray. It is suppose to be your plan but the above plan is different. Can you please tell me which is the correct since we have been following the one in the magazine. I have also bought 2 of your books and going to purchase the cookbook soon. Thanks!

  33. I started this diet one week ago at 5’5″, 170 lbs, and 42 years old. Most of the weight is in my stomach. I want to get down to my high school graduation weight of 135 lbs. After 3 days I found that I had lost no weight. But I decided to give it a few more days. After 7 days, I have lost 4 pounds. This re-energizes me. From now on, I am taking it a week at a time and will try not to weigh in every day. I feel fantastic! Thanks.

  34. Ann
I just wanted to thank you for all the hard work and research that you have put into this Fat Flush plan. I am 48 years old and loosing weight has been a struggle. I started the Fat flush plan about 10 days ago WOW! In the first week I was down 7 pounds. I had so much more energy, that I began exercising again. I now walk between 1-3 miles a day. Also, my skin has never looked so good! I was wondering if you have any other delicious soup recipes?
    Thank you again!

  35. Is it the combination of ingredients that makes this work? I am allergic to onions and garlic (though I can use Mrs. Dash’s herb & onion seasoning) . I would have to go and buy all those ingredients separately – I have never prepared anything with so many ingredients from scratch – so that would make it VERY VERY VERY EXPENSIVE for me. So I really want to know if you need all those things to make it work. What is the bare minimum – I am desperate to lose weight – but financially, I can’t handle all those purchases at any one time. I currently have the beef, the beans and the cayenne. I also have cooking spray (is that okay instead of expensive olive oil?)I’m far more interested in it working than in how it tastes. Please help – I am desperately trying to eat healthy and am getting very close to maxing out every credit card I have buying expensive food. When they’re maxed, I’m back to skipping meals and living on ramen noodles and spaghetti and maybe one or two $1 burgers a week. So I need to lose weight fast. It is the financial stress and eating cheap that made me gain it initially. I am in so deep now that it will take me two years to pay down what I have spent on food since July.

  36. We just started this diet out of the magazine and your blog says it should yeild 12-14 cups. We doubled the reciepe and only got 17 cups is there something we are doing wrong. Just don’t want to be eating to much. We can only eat about 2 cups and are so full!!

  37. Hi!
I am a few days into the Fat Smash Diet, but it’s not working (because the detox phase is killing me and I”m getting bored with food).
My question is will this plan still work although I just tried another “detox”.? If I am already on restricted calories (ok, I’ve cheated…a lot) can this still work?

I want to get the book, but I’m wanting to give this one week “detox” a try before wasting money on the book (would be a waste to get the book if I find that the detox phase doesn’t work).

Also..can one consume coffee or green tea while on the plan?

    Please advise.

Thank you in advance for your response.

    Signed,
    Desperately wanting to lose 30lbs.

  38. Having made this soup once, I am interested in trying the version with diced tomatoes for my second batch. Do we use the 28 oz. can of diced tomatoes instead of a 14 oz. can of crushed tomatoes or in addition to the crushed tomatoes?

  39. For Sandianne,
I recently moved and thus faced with a completely bare kitchen I also had to buy every ingredient in order to make this soup. Most of these ingredients are very inexpensive, the cans of tomatoes and beans are only a little over a dollar depending on brand and can be found at Target and Trader Joe’s. The meat and spices, which you already have, were the priciest of any ingredient. As for the garlic and onions, I do know that as a whole food they contain unique compounds that can’t be replicated by chemicals found in Mrs. Dash but even without onions and garlic this soup would still be an excellent and low calorie source of filling lean protein and vegetables that will not make your hormones spike and has a low glycemic load. I was able to make this soup for under 30 dollars even having to buy every single ingredient and was able to get 5 meals. Also please check out your local library for Dr. Anne. Louise’s books for more recipes in which you can find more recipe suggestions that better suite your needs. Mine had several of Dr. Ann Louise’s books which came in quite handy as I can’t quite yet find the box I packed my copy in.
    Good Luck!

  40. I made the soup last week from the Woman’s World mag, but I made a few adjustments – I added sliced carrots and cabbage, tripled the recipe using a pound of ground beef, a pound ground turkey and approx. 16 ounces shelled edamame as the 3rd source of protein. Also, instead of the canned tomatoes, I belong to a CSA and had a TON of tomatoes, so I chopped them all, roasted them in the oven till they were so soft I could mash them with a wire whisk, then added to the soup base. It is honestly one of the most delicious soups I’ve EVER had! I am almost out and already thinking of what to use for my next batch! My question to you, Ann, is can I replace the meats you listed with about 1.5 pounds of ham (it’s also from a local farm CSA, all natural, very lean, etc.) as well as the edamame? I think it would be very tasty and still low cal? Also, Ann, were my other substitutes OK?

    Nik

  41. Tyra: This play can still be beneficial for you. You won’t get bored because you can make the soup with your own flavor combinations. You can have one cup of organic coffee per day.

Nikki: Sounds like you used the edaname as your beans as well. They aren’t really recommended because they can possibly raise estrogen levels. Dr. Ann Louise has never recommended ham. Even when they are raised very carefully, there is always the potential of parasites.

  42. Thank you for replying AnnLouise (or person(s) on her behalf.

Most important question is will I/can I still lose weight on the program?

  43. Thank you for the reply!
I will start on Monday. Will post my results, if any, after one week for all to see. Happy detoxing to all.

  44. I made this soup today and was surprised!!! It was pretty good as is. But I would like to make it more like a chili flavored soup by adding chili powder or cinnamon next time so I don’t get bored with it. Wondering if this will have any negative effects in weight loss?

Also I saw in an earlier post about the cran-water and cellulite. Never heard of this. How does this work?

    Thanks!

  45. would it be okay to use lentils or Green beans in place of the other beans? also can crystal light be used in the water?

  46. I am starting this diet today. But i was wondering when it comes to the veggies, can they be raw and cooked? On the greek yogurt it kinda taste like sour cream so can i use another type of fat free? What all is consist of the veggies and what are the best fruits to eat? My dad, step mom and I are all trying this diet so please help us.. Thank you so much.

  47. I live in a rural area and the my grocer does not sell fresh parsley or fresh cilantro. Can they be omitted? Can dehydrated be used?

  48. Any of the herbs and spices can be omitted. Veggies should be cooked and/or raw. For more info on the Fat Flushing diet principles, simply pick up a copy of Fat Flush Plan or Fat Flush for Life.

  49. I made this soup based on the recipe in the magazine. I really love the soup! However the recipe made only 10 cups of soup. Am I missing something? The directions I see above are the same quantities as in the magazine.

At any rate, the soup is great. I am eating only 2 cups per serving. Is this okay? (I understand you can actually also have trouble losing weight if you eat too little.)

    Thank you!

  50. We started the Fat-Flush Diet Soup that is in the 3 October 2011Woman’s World and have a couple of questions. The magazine’s Exclusive Recipe states that the recipe should make 16 cups. My wife double the recipe and did not get anywhere near the 32 cups by doubling the recipe. We may at the best get 16 or 17 cups, What are we doing wrong? Also, the magazine article state that 1 serving equals 3 cups, is this correct? We used dark red Kidney beans in the soup is that okay? From reading the comment on your web site, the 11 pounds that Kerrie lost in one week appears to be the exception and the 10 lbs in 3 days stated in the article does not appear the norm from reading the comments of people on your web site. I appreciate your feed back.

  51. I appreciated the two comments, regarding what a vegetarian might do, but I don’t think either has been officially sanctioned by Ann Louise. As there are a number of us trying to make this adaptable – could Ann Louise PLEASE take some time to address this issue.
Personally, I would be open to just about anything, whether it’s eating additional protein on the side, protein powder included, etc. I’m hoping tofu will not be the only alternative, since some vegetarians are sensitive to it.

Thanks to all those who offered suggestions.

  52. Me again..
3 cups at each sitting seems to be an awful lot. Can I have 2 cups and lunch and then then like 2 hours later? Still consuming 3 cups..just not all at once. Is this ok? Will it still promote the same weight loss that the magazine states; 10;bs in 4 days?

Anyone out there tried it this way AND got great results?

  53. Can you use tofu instead of the meat or in addition to meat if you don’t have enough. The soup is very good and I have been sticking to the plan, but have not lost weight. I have followed it exactly as written so I don’t know what I’m not doing correctly.

  54. Hi,
I’m a Health Coach and Personal trainer…loving this recipe. Question – if you don’t eat meat, what can you use? I have several vegetarians and/or non-meat eaters. This calls for the chicken, turkey, beef option…can we use soy crumbles? Fish?

    Many thanks,
    AS

  55. hi, how many cups of water do we have to drink since the soup is so high in sodium please let me know thank you.

  56. Just began yesterday and down 1 pound. Can salt substitute be used and what vegetables and fruits can be inclluded? I’m assuing no salt can be added to eggs. Can I add spinach to salad or sto eggs? I ate an apple as my fruit. That would be my number one choie as it is the best in season fruit and easy to keep. Is that allowed? Like everyone else, my recipe only made about half what the recipe stated so I added lots of water and ate 2 cup portions rather than 3 cups. Is that correct?

  57. PJ – You can skip the mushrooms

Christine – Coffee black. Cream changes it entirely

Antoinette- Soy could be used a couple times a week. Fish is OK but there is the mercury factor to deal with in all fish now.

Julia – You can drink up to 64 oz of water if you wish.
Kathy – There is not a salt substitute recommended. Spinach is good veggie,a low glycemic fruit is OK but apples, oranges, grapefruit are the best this time of year. Berries and frozen peaches are good in the breakfast smoothie

  58. @Lora- Really? You’re criticizing a free recipe and acting as if someone robbed your mother at gunpoint?

In the first place, the recipe clearly states above that it makes 12-14 cups. That allows some variation I assume for evaporation. Perhaps you negated some part of the recipe or lowered the amount of meat? Who knows but it does state ON THIS SITE that it yields 12-14 cups. You need to work on your reading comprehension a bit.

Secondly, just wow at your attitude. And who in the world wants to hear a rant about some singer that failed on a dancing reality show? Perhaps you should work a bit on humility and instead of coming out screaming and calling people names, you should learn to sit back and relax. If you feel that it doesn’t make enough then you should perhaps go by the suggestion and add a can of chunky tomatoes to stretch it. Calling it a ridiculous lie because perhaps your soup somehow evaporated more during cooking or some other such nonsense is a bit extreme.

Dr. Ann Louise posted this soup up on the internet for free. She didn’t use deceit in order to swindle you out of any of your hard earned cash. Your overreaction, while I can see that you are frustrated, is uncalled for and actually very very obnoxiously rude.

  59. Kathy- Be cautious of teas because they tend to be high in copper, which can cause a whole bunch of health problems. One exception to that is Roasted Dandelion Root tea!

Lora- this soup recipe yields a very thick, chili style soup. I stretched mine by adding a cup of water and a cup of no sodium broth.

  60. I am a coffee drinker, I LOVE taste of coffee, and I drink coffee after each meal. I started this plan yestorday, will this plan work by NOT giving up the COFFEE??? I heard that i you drink cup of coffee then you have to drink cup of water right after so you wont get dehydrated and that is how I do it. Is this any True???? PLZ HELP ME!!!!

  61. Kate, I think more than dehydration, the trouble with too much coffee is the affect it has on your adrenal glands. Too much caffeine puts your adrenals into a state of constant stress, with the danger of adrenal burnout. Caffeic acid in coffee does have it’s benefits, though, so Dr. ALG has included the option to enjoy one cup of black organic coffee per day into her protocols. For the best possible results with the Fat Flush Soup Diet, I recommend sticking to just one cup per day.

  62. Can you tell me if i follow the Fat flush Soup diet minus the beans it will give me the same results as if i were doing phase one of The Fat Flush Plan. Can’t afford to buy the Fat Flush Plan book. Please comment would appreciate your time. Thanks!!!

    Connie

  63. One more question what is the difference between the fat flush plan and the fat flush for life?? Please respond

    connie

  64. Kate- Decaf coffee is processed with harmful chemicals, I definitely recommend avoiding decaf and focusing on taking in only one cup of organic coffee daily.

Jjynx- replace the eggs with other foods high in sulfur and zinc like red meats, fish, cruciferous veggies. Pomegranite juice may be substituted for cranberry juice if you have an allergy, but there is more sugar so be wary. Otherwise focus on blueberries and raspberries as they are also really high in antioxidants.

Lorrie- diet pop or soda of any kind is not part of the Fat Flush Plan. Artificial sweeteners cause bloating and head aches, and the carbonation leeches phosphorous from your bones.

Connie- It’s hard to say exactly what your results would be, but if you had a Fat Flush Body Protein smoothie and two servings of the soup per day, 2 hard boiled eggs, 1 serving of fruit in addition to the smoothie, and unlimited vegetables, I imagine you would be in good shape!

  65. For beginners I recommend become familiar with the Fat Flush principles by following the classic Fat Flush Plan. When you’re comfortable with the concepts you may wish to follow Fat Flush for Life (which is a seasonal approach to Fat Flushing) for more versatility and more options.

  66. One more question should I omit the beans to keep soup suitable for phase 1 ?? Thanks again for your time!!!!! Please let me know making soup.

  67. thankyou!!!! Appreciate your time! I got a copy of the Fat flush from my friend going to do the two week flush-enjoying the soup!!

  68. I was wondering if you have to eat the whole 3 cups of the soup because it is a lot and filling I can hardly finish it.

  69. is the sweating part of the plan as well. I do like the soup but it does have a lot of sodium in it. I do use low sodium V8 but what else can I use to lower it. is grapes a good fruit to eat on the plan. thank you for your soup and you e comments back to us

  70. Lynn: You could use all tomatos instead of the juice. Grapes are high glycemic and so not good. Berries, apples, pears, citrus are all good.

  71. Does the soup require adding any water cause i made it the other day with no water just the V8 and it seems like its just to thick

  72. Hi I’am going to do the 2 week flush starting sunday but can’t afford to buy all the supplements you recommend. if i had to choose a supplement what would you recommend and also can i get same results without supplements. i do take thyroid medicine in morning have to be careful what i take. i’m 5′ 7″ and weigh 164 trying to lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks is that possible on your flush? I’m doing a biggest loser competition at my gym. Your 2 week menu alittle complicated for me i don’t have time to cook do you have a eassier menu to follow?? Would appreciate your feedback! thanks!

  73. Jessica- You can add as much water as you like!

Connie- The soup diet would be great for you, as well as the Smoothie Shakedown. I’ve seen great results from both eating plans, both with and without the supplements. however, those who have the best success usually do use the Fat Flush Kit. If you had to choose just one, I would probably recommend the Weight Loss Formula. Here are links to the Smoothie Shakedown http://www.smoothieshakedown.com and to the Weight Loss Formula https://www.unikeyhealth.com/product/Weight_Loss_Formula/Fat_Flush_Weight_Loss

  74. I just started the smoothie shake down this Monday; so far the shakes are great. Can I use this soup as part as one of my meals? The recipe suggests using beef, turkey or chicken…can we use deer, moose or lambs which all are lean meats?

  75. Hi Christina! I hope the Shakedown is going well for you 🙂 You can certainly use all the wild game you mentioned- they are full of belly busting CLA that you won’t find in beef at the store! The recipe can be adapted for the shakedown by simply omitting the beans. Everything else is A-OK!!

  76. I have been diagnosed with a fatty liver. So, I have tried some of Dr. Louise’s diets before and liked the results. I am fixing to start the Fat Flush today. Just one question, if you are having trouble with yeast (candida) should you use the mushrooms? Do they affect yeast?
I’ll post back with results, WISH ME LUCK!!!

  77. Lynn, I imagine that seafood approved for the Fat Flush Plan would work in this soup. Generally you should look for wild caught smaller varieties of fish, as they are less likely to contain heavy metals and other toxins in their flesh.

Donna, you should indeed avoid the mushrooms as they not only are fungal, but also tend to be high in copper, which encourages yeast. Best of Luck to you!

  78. thank you and i like the ground turkey the best in the soup. I was just trying to find another option for a meal other then the soup.

  79. Does it matter what kind of beans? I don’t remember a specific kind. Are kidney beans ok? or is there a kind that you reccomend?

  80. whoops. just re read the recipe! sorry! i read the beans part! would it be ok to add kidney beans? or substitute them for the other beans?

  81. Love This!!! My hubby, son and I did this!!! It was great! We stuck with it for longer, (the soup is that good) Hubby lost 30 lbs in 6 weeks, teen son lost 17 lbs in a month, I lost 15!!!!

  82. After turning 34 I was looking of something to get me started. Wow has the Fat Flush Soup worked. I lost 24 pounds in the first 3 weeks. Two month later I have lost 30, pounds, and walk/run 5 miles a day. I feel great!! It gave me the start I needed to reach my goals.

  83. Here is MY take on this soup diet thing. The Womans World magazine said you could 10lbs in one week. WRONG. Actually, hella wrong.
When I did this eating plan the first time I only lost 4lbs in the first week. And..I even worked out, so 10lbs is not true.

Second- I suffer from Migraines so it was a bit hard for me to follow this diet to a “t”. One of my triggers for Migraines is not eating (or eating enough).

The magazine also said this soup was good. Now THAT is the TRUTH. I really enjoyed having soup. I actually added low-fat cheese to my soup and it was yummy.

I made the soup again (maily because I like the taste and want something thats filling without consuming too many calories). I’m gonna see what kind of results I get this time around. I’ll let everyone know.

I am using kidney beans and white beans in my recipe. If anyone has any tips I’d love to hear them.

    Thank you

  84. Tyra, The truth for you is that you did not lose as much as some other people do. There can be hormonal reasons, including a slow thyroid and burned out adrenals responsible for this. UNI KEY Health has testing that you can do that will help you find out and correct imbalances like these.

  85. I’m a vegetarian can I omit the meat or add tofu or ground almonds to the soup and can I also add other veggies like celery, spinach, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and or zucchini? also is it ok to snack on walnuts?

  86. Hi PJ, You can certainly omit the meat! Tofu is okay about twice per week, and extra veggies are AOk! Walnuts are a healthy snack, however probably not recommended if your goal is weight loss. Best wishes!

  87. Your soup really just looks good and taste good! I asked my wife to make one for me, we enjoyed the night because of your recipe as a midnight snack! I always try to make one or ask my wife to make every that really looks and taste good to me. And the good thing about your recipe, it’s one of the Healthy Soup Recipes For Weight Loss. Everybody loves to eat but, not the fats and calories that you can get from eating. Thanks for such a delightful recipe, it really interest me t come back very often..

  88. Thank you, thank you!!! I lost 12 lbs in 1 week!!! I took a break for 3 days, kept it low carb, and I have not gained. Started another week today! However I do not eat meat I just added vegetable protein crumbles and I use both black and kidney beans in my soup! I add a lot more cayenne pepper and its like eating chili. I love the taste, texture and the results are amazing. I went from 204 to 192. It was great to see the scale move after hitting a plateau. I have been eating healthy and working out for over a year and have lost over 60lbs. Hoping this plan will help me lose my last 25lbs.

  89. Arol@ Melissa: Funny how I POINT OUT THE TRUTH-that I was far from the only person who realized that this Fat Flush Soup that “claims” on some websites & in Woman’s World Magazine that the soup yields 16 cups, & on some other websites that the soup yields 12-15 cups BARELY yields 9 cups when prepared as is (& I challenge ANY HONEST PERSON OUT THERE to actually INSULT ME & tell me that your batch of Fat Flush soup when PREPARED EXACTLY AS INSTRUCTED yielded even CLOSE to 16 cups) & ALL my comments get removed.

    Dr. Ann Louise posted this soup up on the internet for free. She didn’t use deceit in order to swindle you out of any of your hard earned cash. Your overreaction, while I can see that you are frustrated, is uncalled for and actually very very obnoxiously rude.}

  91. Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have any suggestions for substitutes for mushrooms and tomatoes/tomato juice in the soup? I have to start a yeast-free diet, and those ingredients are on the no-no list.

    Thanks and Happy Holidays!
    tdt

  92. Hello All!

Does anyone know of a low-sodium brand of tomato juice or vegetable juice that does not list “natural flavors” as an ingredient? From what I can tell, most “natural flavors” are far from natural.

    Thank you!
    Mary Alice

  93. Mary Alice: I know that there is a health food frand of Very Veggie juice that is all natural. Some supermarkets do carry it too.

Jenn: You don’t have to use anything that creates a problem for you.

  94. Hubbie and I have tried them all and for one reason or another, lost weight, lost our way, gained it all back (plus some) and we are both swelled over 220+. Found this soup idea in a magazine and thought, hey, we can do that. We went Lemon Juice diet 3 years ago for 25 days (and the taste of the maple syrup keeps us from sticking to that). Was doing only juice and raw for a few months. But we need to eat like real people. And we love meat. So when hubbie told me that this time he won’t complain no matter what I choose for us, I researched this a little more and decided this is the real way to eat, live, and care for our bodies.
Wish us luck. Starting Jan. 1, 2012 and will keep you all posted every month, where losing is winning.

  95. This is probably really dumb but I was wondering if there would be any difference to the soup if it was whirled in a food processor or blender. I really don’t care for the texture of the veggies but like the taste. Thanks!

  96. I have kidney failure can I omit the tomatoe juice or coctail as my doctor does not allow me to eat tomatoes. And how long can I eat the soup for.

  97. Made the soup today, starting tomorrow. A little worried about hunget cause unfortunately ate way too many treats and junk ovet the holidays so Iknow my stomach is used to lots of food. But I’m excited to see what happens. Does anyone do the cranwater with the diet?

  98. I am starting today…made the soup last night…my recipe said if you do not want meat you can use beans…I doubled the recipe to make things more convenient but I did use a lot of beans…now I am reading I shouldn’t have put any in….we will see but I don’t like meat in soup and had no idea that the beans were not OK …my stomach also used to lots of food so maybe the beans will help keep me fuller …good luck to everyone

  99. This is my second time cooking this soup. The first time was last October and I lost six pounds in the first two days. I was never hungry as this soup is really filling. By the end of the week I had lost a total of about 9 pounds and NO BLOAT. I felt so much better without that horrible bloated feeling.

I cooked up another batch last night and added tumeric to the recipe. Same great tasting soup with a little different curry flavor to change it up a bit. I will keep eating this soup because it’s so good, and the weight and bloating loss is a wonderful added benefit.

  100. I had labband 11 months ago and the holidays I found that I gained a few pounds from snacking I did the soup for 3 days and I dropped what I gained plus a few pounds I actually lost 9 lbs in 3 days to make the soup thinner I used 64oz of low sodium v8 juice instead of the 32 called for and it yielded plenty for 2x a day for 3 days and actually is very good. Going to try another 3 days to get myself back on track.

  101. For those of you that cannot afford the book, it is sold as a used copy on Amazon for as little as $4. It is a very informative read, and will really open up your eyes to what you are putting n your body. Also, most of you are asking for substitutes, and the book will tell you all of the spices you are allowed to consume and what effects they have on your body as well as the different fruits and veggies allowed in the different phases of this plan. Buy it–the knowledge you will gain about food will not be a waste of your money. Otherwise, scour your library for a copy.

Thanks for posting this recipe, Ann!!

  102. I started the soup diet 3 days ago, quit coffee with my cream and sugar fix, and have been biking on average 20 kilometers daily with a beginner workout for my upper body also…One thing is for sure, the soup fills me, it tastes great, and I don’t even miss my coffee…Big plus! Due to menopause my weight increased and my metabolism decreased…Yuck! I do bloat, but I expected as much….by morning my stomach is back to normal…Thanks again for the recipe……

P.S. I don’t know if I lost weight or not….Never weighed myself, but if I can fit in to my jeans better or a size smaller, then I will know for sure!

    Diane

  103. Hi and thank you for all the comments, they are very helpful. Can someone please let me know if I can replace the tomato juice for vegetable broth or something else. I made the soup three days ago and it was delicious. I didn’t weight myself but I feel less bloated as if something is cleansing my body without effort. The soup is delicious and very hearty, Please post if I can use vegetable broth, I really need to start a new batch. My daughter and I devoured the last one in three days. Take care.

  104. yup! soups on and looking 4ward to eating healthy for 3 days straight…hope to see something disappear (lololololololo).!!!!!! I weighed 2nite and will again am before i eat….then i won’t weigh till sunday…but the jeans r the real talkers huh? well none of mine fit so i’ve got super goals!!!

  105. We started on Tuesday doing the soup and I am down 8 pounds. I used organic ground meat (extra lean) and really loaded up the spices. It was heavenly for me. Hubby is struggling with all the tomatos and tomato juice. Would it be possible to use the Chicken Stock instead of the bottled juice?
That being said, we are going to stick with it. Have been doing major detoxing and hope to be one of those success stories.
Oh, and I got the cook book. Wonderful. Really helps me change it up, especially with the eggs for breakfast.

  106. How can I figure the fat, fiber, carb and protein content of this soup so I can use it on Weight Watcher for a long term diet regime?

  107. I read about the diet on Sunday and started it on Monday 1/9/11, A little skeptical,( the stories of losing 10+ pounds in a week), but I have tried everything!

I gues I can feel less bloated, more energy, don’t know if due to soup or my decision to lose weight. I am up at 6:30 am everyday. As a matter of fact I was up at 5 cooking up my seconf batch of soup.

My husband is also on the diet with me, will weigh myself Friday 1/13 and see what happens.

    1. I buy the Designer Whey Vanilla protein at Trader Joe’s…there is no sugar or artificial sweetners added. Hard to find a protein powder that doesn’t have an artificial sweetner. I have been following this plan on and off for 10 years and I swear by it! Good Nights sleep and lot’s of water is key!

  108. Where can I purchase the fat flush protein? Can some people share their success stories
with me? Just starting to make the commitment of losing 30 pounds

  109. I dont understand why everyone is concerned about losing weight..I hate that term.. why not use the term losing fat.. if we have a mind set on the scale and losing weight , what are we losing,??? muscle, bone, water, other tissue, and a little fat… muscle weights more than fat… when your waist shrinks, but the scale does not move, you are losing fat , and gaining vaulable muscle

  110. As long as my waist , thighs & hips shrink a few inches, I have no problem with the scale not moving…As Dr. Oz says, measure the waist and dont worry about the scale… stop dieting, eat a healthy diet, and dont be on a diet, & you will get healthy

  111. So I heard all the fuss about this soup and my mother and I started it on 1/16/2012 she made her soup with the shredded chicken and kidney beans and I made mine with black bean and ground lean turkey. We are both excited to weigh ourselves next Monday.. wish us luck!!!!!!

  112. Hello everyone. I have seen a few posts asking about success stories. My boyfriend and I started this soup diet on New Years day. He has lost 14 pounds and I have lost 12. It does work. I will say that I had horrible eating habits before, so just cutting out the soda and fast food probably had something to do with it. But I feel so much less bloated, and the inches have come off my waist. I am 44 years old and it is my time. I will keep you all posted. Making another batch now, going to try it without the cilantro & cayenne and use it as a sauce over wheat pasta or chicken breast. Think I will put turkey meatball in it though so my 21 YO son can enjoy it too.

  113. Is there anyway to get the nutrition facts of this soup? I saw one post on another website that trying to get the nutrition facts would be difficult because of the ingredients used but even an estimate would be better than nothing 🙂

  114. I lost 13.5lbs in one week on this soup. I then ate other healthy things for a week and didn’t loose any weight. I started eating the soup again this week and in 3 days I have lost 4 more lbs. I am in a weight loss competition with my family to get slimmed up for my wedding in 8 months and this has been a great start to my goal of 50 lbs. I am just hoping that I can continue with this success and not get tired of the soup. Right now I love it. I have tried many different combinations with lean ground beef or lean ground turkey, green, red or orange bell peppers. Cilantro, no cilantro. more ciane pepper and less. All have been a wonderful change up. Next I want to try navy beans and the spicy low sodium V8 tomato juice… All and all, I am loving this diet, although my step father is in the lead with -19.5lbs!!! I think I might send a delivery of pizza his way… HA! 🙂

  115. I just got the fat flush book I’m going on vacation in 2 weeks and want to lose 10 lbs….I’m breaking out the bikinis (yikes) should I do the soup diet or the 2 week fat flush phase 1? I planned on starting tomorrow, please help!!

  116. Janine, I answered your post on another blog, but I figured I could chime in here, too!
I think you’ll be able to achieve your results with Phase 1 of the Fat Flush Plan. You can make the soup, too, if you omit the beans!
    Have fun and good luck!

  117. AGAIN..can someone tell me the name of the book? I only know of this soup because of the information that was in Womens World…and now I can’t find the magazine to see if it has any information on what the name of the book is. Even a link to purchase the book would be VERY helpful.

Thanks in advance…and good luck EVERYONE!

  118. Okay started today, weighed myself and will see how the week turns out. Hopefully this is just the beginning, need to lose this weight. Check back next week and let you know how it goes.

  119. Just made the soup today. Will Weigh in the morning and start tomorrow. Sure hope it helps. Have had heart surgery and really having a hard time looseing weight.

  120. I see someone else asked this question on 1/5/12 but I don’t see an answer. Can the soup be made w vegetable broth instead of the 32 oz of tomato juice cocktail? Thank you.

  121. Can I have 1 smoothie shakedown for breakfast and the fat flush soup for lunch and dinner?? Without beans? I need to lose 15 pounds but I’m addicted to diet coke and donuts!!!! Can I stick on the program for 1 month?

  122. For those of you looking for the nutritional value: If you join loseit.com you can create foods from your own recipes. You just type in the ingredients and it will give you a full read out.

  123. Katie: Yes you can have the Smoothe for breakfast and the soup for lunch and dinner. I bet you can lose the 15 pounds faster than a month. We suggest that you go on the plan for 2 weeks and than take a few day break and have one smoothie and 2 meals that are described in the Smoothie Shakedown booklet.

  124. I read the ‘fat flush’ article in a Womens World magazine a few weeks back and told a girlfriend about it…she started it and has lost 11lbs in 1 week! I made the soup last night, but didn’t have the ceyenne, used chili powder instead(?). I have lost 10 lbs in 4 weeks by watching my calorie intake and have done pretty well. I am needing a small boost for my ’emotional’ sake, so I started the soup today, very yummy!!. I only have 20 lbs to go (4 inches or so), so I hope this will help me get further along that path.

  125. Hello, I am excited to try this. couple of questions.

Wil drinking cofee have any effect/
how about any liquor? how much will that affect results?

  126. I made this soup last night exactly as published figuring I could doctor it up as I needed. I was sure it was going to be boring. It was NOT. It is so delicious and filling. At the end I added a little (from scratch) chicken stock to thin it out so I could add some leafy greens (chard) and shredded cabbage. My boyfriend and I are so excited about how good it is. His goal = 20 and mine = 32. Whoo hoo.

  127. Katie: You can try doing various combinations of smoothies and soup, but both plans were really designed to have one meal per day of non-liquid food. Diet coke is a good addiction to break. It will hold you back. Artificial sweeteners are neurotoxins and also cause your liver to not process fat as effectively.

Rick:You could do one cup of organic coffee a day, but alcohol is not helpful at all.

  128. I currently have this soup on the stove, and the house smells heavenly! I have doubled the recipe in the hopes that my fiance will do this flush with me.

I have a question regarding the coffee as well – would non organic coffee interfere with this program? I have started weaning myself off of coffee, but it’s a slow process, and I’m afraid of the headaches I will get without any coffee at all.

  129. Jenni: One cup of organic coffee is OK. The issue is that non-organic has so many pesticides that it iscounter-productive in detoxing your liver.

Nyari: There already is plenty of sodium in there. You could add 1/4 tsp., especially if you get light headed easily which may indicate a stressed adrenal gland situation.

    Laura: Yes you can.

  130. I followed this for three days like two months ago and lost 9 lbs, and then went back to the way I was before. I am doing it again as a jump start, then I will go right onto weight watchers. It REALLY helps that my husband is doing it with me. Yeah!!!!!

  131. I was laid off from work in jan, I quit smoking and I have gained 20pds. I just finished making this soup and it smells great (not a big fan of cilantro) but used it anyway. I hope this works for me, I’m not in a very good place right now and a fast headstart would make everything better. Also started going to the gym again. Wish me luck!!!!!!!

  132. If I have completed phase 1, can I do phase 1 two more weeks, is that bad or good? I think I have more than 20 lbs still to go. Also, I had my almost 13 yr old do phase 1 with me, but since I don’t want her to lose weight (just wanted her to cleanse) how do I get her onto Phase 3 if I can only let her try ?one new food a week?

  133. Hi everyone,

I want to start making this soup as soon as possible. I love mushrooms and peppers but my boyfriend hates them. Can any other vegetables be put in to substitute for those so I can get him to eat it?

    Thanks for the help!

  134. Tracy: Just leave out the undesired veggies. It will still be very good.

Juli: If you have another 20 lbs to lose, go to phase 2 which is actually the weight loss phase. You should do fine with your weight loss. If you were just having your daughter detox then just have her go directly to phase 3. Don’t worry about the instruction to add one food at a time.

  135. If you can lose up to 10 pounds in 3 days eating the soup twice a day, what are the results for eating the soup only once a day? Will you lose half the weight, or will it not work at all?

    Thank you!

  136. It’s hard to say Tiffany. If it is a major improvement from your typical diet, you very well may see results. But as a general rule, all of Dr. Gittleman’s dietary programs should be followed closely for optimal results.

  137. Hi, I was hoping someone could tell me how many calories are in 2 cups of the soup.
I’m trying to log it and am not sure what to put for calories. If someone could help me out I’d appreciate it so much 🙂

    1. A simple way to figure the amount of calories is: take the 315 stated in Woman’s World, divide by 3 (number of cups in a serving) =105 (per cup) then multiply by 2 (number of cups you are wondering about) the answer is 210. This is probably an estimate but better than not knowing.

    1. Don’t eat anything you don’t like. I’m sure you will do just fine. Phase 2 refers to “The Fat Flush Plan” book, and this is the recommended next step to keep losing weight.

  138. so what if i dnt add green peper, onion and mushroom or cumin to my soup will that affect it at all?any 1 not add these and still get good results?

    1. You should only eat the ingredients that you like. We don’t know exactly how much it will change the results to alter the recipe. I am sure you will still do well.

  139. o shoot maybe cuz i read ing wrong i added 2 types of beans well ill try this and change it next week

  140. hi! for the soup would i beable to replace the meat with more beans or something else? i dont eat meat and was wondering what to subsitute it with. thank you!

    1. Hi Amy, you are welcome to have 2 servings of tofu or tempeh per week, so that may be used in place of the meat. Apart from that, you may add an additional 8 oz can of beans to the recipe 🙂

    2. Amy i make this vegan all the time i just toss some smart ground in it or soyriso sometimes i add both and its great .. i dont add two pounds though!! just one package. also i add all kinds of squash to make it “meaty”

    3. Hi Amy, I was thinking of doing the Fat Flush Plan. I also do not eat meat or poultry, were you successful with substituting with beans?

  141. How long can I do the fat flush soup diet for? Also, I have two hard boiled eggs for breakfast each day. Is that ok? or should I add something else?
    Thank you.

  142. I have been on the soup diet for three days now. What can I add to help me go #2 as I have not gone since starting this.

  143. can i have this fat flush soup,as a regular soup,i mean daily without following the program?

      1. Brigitte, thanks for your help with the link, however it is incomplete and gives wrong information about foods to include. It would be better to get Dr. Ann Louise’s Fat Flush Plan or more specifically the Fat Flush Foods book.

Food combining and portions are very important along with the specific foods.

  144. Hello,
I have 2 questions about the soup.

    1. Can I use lean ground turkey breast in the soup? It has less fat than just the lean ground turkey and wasn’t sure if that makes a difference.

    2. Can I just use 1 pound of meat, or do I need to use more than that?

    Thank you!!!!

    1. Yes you can use turkey breast. A pound and a quarter will end up being about a pound cooked. It’s best to include all the protein in the soup.

  145. I love the soup. Even though I’m vegan the first time I made it I put in an extra can of black beans and some frozen okra to sub for meat and it was wonderful. Made it again today and forgot the okra so I put in a bag of spinach and can of black beans and a can of kidney beans. Cant wait for it to get done.

  146. Hi I’m doing a biggest loser competition and was wondering if i could use this plan to lose weight fast-it is a competition !! Thanks Connie

  147. One more question the plan you outlined in article above how many calories total do you know?? B,L,D and two snacks

    Thanks

  148. Hi!
I really enjoy the soup, however I do not like the taste of Cumin. Is there anohter spice I can substitute?

  149. I can’t or don’t want to give up my morning coffee with my coffee mate. How much will this hurt the diet??? Thanks

  150. I can’t or don’t want to give up my morning coffee with my coffee mate…How much will this hurt the diet???
    Thanks

    1. Hi Muriel,
It’s impossible to say for sure how much it will hamper your results. Do be mindful that the more closely you follow the diet, the better your results will be. Many people have allergies to milk products or artificial sweeteners that cause them to hold onto water weight. Coffee mate is high in sugar and probably high fructose corn syrup, which can greatly disrupt your blood sugar levels, causing cravings and clogging up your liver.

  151. Hi! I’ve made this soup a few times. I like it very much, but each batch is a little sour tasting… it’s hard for me to finish an entire bowl. I think it might be the tomato juice, but I’m not sure. Is there anything I can add that would cut the tartness I’m getting? I want to be able to eat a whole bowl including the broth, but right now it’s a bit hard for me. Thank you!

  152. Hi – am I able to have the “slimming soup? while on F1 of FFP? If so, how much and when? Can I the same 2-3 cups for for lunch and/or or dinner?

  153. I made this today and made one mistake.I forgot to drain the can of beans. Is this going to mess with weight loss?

    Thankyou
    Alexis.

    1. The sodium may impact your results slightly, but I would not be overly concerned about it on this batch. Next time, drain and rinse the beans and you will be all set!

    1. You can have tofu in place of the meat for 2-3 servings per week. Apart from that, I’d recommend supplementing with a vegan protein powder like the Fat Flush Body Protein.

  154. Is this something that my husband can do also? he is trying very hard to lose weight, but seems to not be able to.

    1. Yes, this plan would be great for men. To modify, they would just have slightly higher protein requirements, so you can add a little extra meat to the soup. And get the Fat Flush Body Protein- he can have 2-3 smoothies per day made with that 🙂

      1. Sierra,

Where do I find “Fat Flush Protien?” As you write about it, it seems a product I can purchase at the grocery store. Also, when the soup is cold, are the measurements the same? I have used green beans. Is that a problem? I have used 46oz of V8 in order to have more liquid. Is that a problem?
        Martha

        1. You can find the Body Protein online through UNI KEY health. Please visit http://www.unikeyhealth.com to read more about it. Hot and cold measurements would be the same. Green beans are not a part of the protocol, but I doubt the will greatly impact your results. And I prefer to use chicken stock with either fresh tomatoes or a small can of tomato paste, because V-8 is very high in sodium and other ingredients which may impact your results.

  155. I’ve made this soup twice now. The first time I used tofu and it had a very nice texture. The second time I used ground turkey and it has more of a loose chili texture and I love that as well. Thanks for coming up with a soup recipe that doesn’t make you feel deprived or unsatisfied on your weight loss journey.

    1. Coconut creamer often contains thickeners like carageenan that convert to MSG in the body, so black coffee is ideal, a 2 packets of stevia per day are permissible.

  156. I made the soup about 2 weeks ago. My daughters 15 & 18 love it. They love it so much that a pot only lasts a day. I tried to double the ingredients but the soup was too tomatoey. Any suggestions for making a family size portion?

  157. The recipe that I found in a magazine a few years back also had yellow squash. I always used 2 or 3 small ones cut up in chunks and it was great also it called for lime juice instead of lemon juice.

  158. Hi there, just wondering what the nutritional information was for the fat flushing soup? I am on weight watchers and need to calculate the points.

  159. Hi there!

I tried this soup a few years ago and got great results (-10lbs). I would love to try this soup again but I recently turned vegetarian. I’m not a fan of tofu or tempeh so should I double the beans for added protein?

    Thanks!

  160. I’m excited! Just bought my ingredients for this soup and will make it tomorrow. Going to stick to it until Thanksgiving day. I hope to drop 10 – 12lbs by then. Wish me luck!

    1. It’s not specifically included with the diet. Green tea can be high in fluoride which can slow down your thyroid and your metabolism. If you drink green tea make sure it is organic to minimize the amount of additives.

  161. Why is it that when we ask about nutrional value yiu don’t reply? Is it simply that you just do not know? Many of us would like to try this plan and some need to be careful with our protein, carbs, calories, and sodium. I need 75 grams of protein per day and i’d like to be able to put in the correct information on my fitness counter. Do you know the values?

    1. Hi Jenny, each serving should have 20 gm of protein. The carbs and sodium depend on the beans and veggies you use. We don’t count calories.

  162. Per above it says 3 cups is a serving but in the comments it says 2 cups. Which is accurate? I started yesterday and doubled the ingredients to last longer–!: I’ve had 3 cups of soup in each sitting. I’m also curious if you can have coffee? If so should it just be black? Or do you suggest water only for the diet. Lastly is the diet one week? As in 7 days or should this be done in 5 days?

    1. A serving is 3 cups. It is a full week diet. Ann Louise has always included one cup of black organic coffee as a legal cheat.

  163. Last question! I was attempting this diet while I also breastfeed- in one day I’ve noticed a major dip in my milk supply. I assumed this would be fine to do but have you heard this happen before? Should I not do this diet while breastfeeding?

    1. Ann Louise only recommends doing phase 3 of the Fat Flush while breastfeeding. You need enough energy to produce milk. This plan will not give you enough.

    2. Why would you diet while your body is needing to produce milk? That immediately says bad idea to me! Your body automatically burns fat while breastfeeding!!

  164. Currently I’m on Prednisone for my asthma which is creating extreme hunger. After researching and reintroducing myself to Fat Flush, I bought myself some of the essentials to help me through (Fat Flush water and this soup) I dropped 6 lbs in a week so far and that is not even following the program religiously.

I have added more carbs than is recommended here in the form of healthy fruits and vegetables and lower sodium foods.

My son, who is recovering from a severe bout of pneumonia this past winter, and has put on some weight due to his not being as physically active as usual, has decided he is on board with this as well.

Some years ago I had done the Fat Flush water throughout the day without completely following the eating plan and noticed a significant difference in how my pants fit after a two week period. Cellulite diminished and I had definitely lost inches. I have no idea why I never continued .. it’s not hard to drink the water as a daily ritual.

Cannot find my FF book so, I’m going to order a series of books later today.

  165. Hello,
I am currently on day 2 of the fat flush soup diet, I have done it before… however, this time every time I eat the soup I am extremely bloated and my stomach hurts. I’m sure I have a sensitivity to something in it. I feel like I should stop eating it if it is making me feel sick, could I finish the remainder of the time with eating a 5 oz lean protein and vegetables? Thank you!

  166. Can someone tell me if a scrambled egg (with no oil, butter, or cheese) can be used in place of a boiled egg? I cannot eat boiled eggs.

    1. We don’t count calories here, rather the types of foods are important and the amounts. The exact calories would vary anyway based on which protein and beans you use. One serving is 3 cups.

  167. I don’t eat meat can I substitute the meat with another can of beans? Can I give the soup a little more bulk by adding more vegtables like zucchini and mushrooms and tomatoes?

  168. I think it depends on how old the baby is and how often they breastfeed. My little one is almost a year so she eats 3 meals a day plus a few snacks. She still breastfeeds first thing in the morning, maybe 2 times during the day, and at night. That being said I am able to “diet”, but I make sure to eat plenty of fruits and veggies and drink plenty of water.

    1. In the Woman’s World article (years ago), as well as on this page, there were additions you could add to the soup for inflammation and other issues. I cannot find the original page or the Woman’s World magazine that I had saved. Is there anyway to find that information?

  169. I would like to know how many calories per serving is this soup. Sorry if if was already answered somewhere but I didn’t see it.

    1. Since there are many possible variables in the recipe, we don’t have nutritional info on it, including the calorie count.

  170. I bought all the ingredients today to make a double batch of the soup. I got a great deal on rotisserie chickens at the grocery store-lemon pepper,I believe.

I intended to remove the skin from the chicken before I added it to the pot. Is pre-cooked rotisserie chicken an acceptable change to the recipe instead of starting with raw meat?

    1. Henrietta, you don’t have to add mushrooms at all if you don’t want to. There really isn’t a substitution that is necessary.

  171. Can I add black eye peas? I used pinto and black beans because I don’t want to include meat I also used low sodium broth in the place of tomato juice and I didn’t have any mushrooms.

  172. I don’t see Jalapenos as an allowed vegetable, but not sure they would be considered a vegetable. I love spicy soups and prefer Jalapenos to Cajun pepper. Are they allowed.

    1. Jalapenos are a pepper so yes they are a spicy vegetable. Although they are not included in the list you could use them in moderation.

  173. I used this 3x to jump start the year. I love AL Gittleman’s programs. 11 lbs off my highest and feeling great.

        1. Debbie, We don’t have detailed nutrition information on the Fat Flush soup. You can make the soup with various beans and meat so it would be hard to give an accurate breakdown.

  174. Do you have to eat 3 cups? One cup is plenty filling for me, for lunch at least. I might be able to do 3 cups for dinner.

Also, the recipe in Women’s World (2020) is a bit different and calls for Daikon Radishes, which I could not find. I substituted turnips (root) and added some Kale.

    1. Christine,
Eat enough soup to stay satisfied. You can use regular radish (red round ones) instead of the Daikon radishes. Turnips and radishes are in the same family but they have less protein and more carbs than the red round radishes.

    1. Janet, You can help lower your creatine by eating less red meat, even dairy and eggs and eating more fiber in fruit, whole grains, beans and lots of veggies. Food, including protein is digested in your stomach. To help ensure more complete digestion, you can take a digestive enzyme like Digesta-Key. https://unikeyhealth.com/products/digesta-key
