Spring Clean for Health

104278945Are you a spring body type?

The concept of detoxing by the seasons targets major detoxification pathways and is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine’s approach to health throughout the year. The seasons, which last approximately three months each, have their own rhythm and character, bringing temperature and weather changes, as well as differing hours of daylight—all of which affect health. The Chinese understood that the Earth has its seasonal periods when certain organs are more vulnerable and need special care. For example, the focus is on your liver and gall bladder in the spring, your heart and small intestine in the summer, your lungs and large intestine in the autumn, and your kidneys and adrenals in the winter.

Cleansing and creating a lifestyle in harmony with the body’s natural cycles can help fortify your well-being, season in and season out. Each of us has a “seasonal beauty type” based on our looks, the way our body functions, and our overall temperament. Since spring is upon us, the characteristics of the spring body type are listed below. As you look over the list, you will notice that seemingly unrelated symptoms (like eye problems in the spring) are grouped together. This is not an oversight. Acupuncture meridians connect various organs (such as the eyes and the liver) to one another.

Spring
• Reddish complexion
• Deep vertical crease between eyebrows
• Unresolved anger, frustration, and irritability
• Prone to acne and oily skin
• Split or thickened nails
• Eye problems, such as light sensitivity, redness, sties, and tearing eyes
• Hemorrhoids or varicose veins
• Chronic tension in the neck and across the shoulders
• Digestive problems such as gas, bloating, and belching
• Light-colored stools
• Hormonal imbalances
• Rib cage sensitivity, particularly under the right ribs
• Waking up between 1 am and 3 am

If you relate to at least two of the symptoms mentioned above, then it may be time to take your body to the cleaners! Here are a few of my tips to “spring clean” your body from the inside out:

1) Go for the green. Fresh veggies, especially purifying, dark green, leafy ones like kale and parsley—which are high in chlorophyll—can help to gently cleanse the liver and gallbladder.

2) Get into tea time. Dandelion Root Tea is the premier springtime herbal tea because it has a long history of gentle, effective liver cleansing and decongesting. It’s known as a primary liver tonic and offers more nutritional value than most vegetables. Dandelion root also helps alleviate liver inflammation and congestion by stimulating bile.

3) Lemonize! The juices from fresh lemons, limes, and natural diuretics have antiseptic, germicidal, and mucus-eliminating properties. They have been used for centuries as liver toners and bile thinners.

4) Nourish your liver with liver-protecting herbs. Look for blends that contain gentian root, which stimulates the gallbladder to increase secretion and flush out bacteria; milk thistle, which protects and generates the liver by preventing free-radical damage through its known potent antioxidant properties found in the active component known as silymarin; yellow dock, which acts as a liver purifier and toner through cleansing the bloodstream; and Oregon grape root, which is helpful in liver-connected skin conditions, such as overly red or oily skin.

Weight Loss Formula is a stimulant-free two-in-one product because it supports healthy weight loss and optimizes liver function at the same time. For weight control, it provides 400 mcg of chromium, a mineral which plays a major role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, and a hefty dose (500 mg) of L-Carnitine tartrate, a fat controller which transports fatty acids into the metabolic furnace of the cell. Liver-lovin’ herbs are also blended together in a proprietary blend containing lecithin, lipase plant enzyme 2,000 FIP, turmeric root, dandelion root, milk thistle seed, and Oregon grape root—offering all the support your liver needs for its two primary detoxification phases.

Giving your liver and gallbladder special nurturing during the spring will help you attain better overall health and beauty. Let this spring herald a time of new beginnings in all areas of your life, starting with your precious body.
