shakedown_blogYou can lose up to 20 pounds—safely—in just 2 weeks!

Want to curb your appetite? Need to boost metabolism so you can successfully lose weight this spring?

With 67% of Americans overweight or obese, most people need to shed some pounds. Even 18% of today’s teens are overweight. But losing weight can be dangerous if not done right.

The good news is that high-fiber drinks—especially when you add nutrient-dense berries—help you do just that! New Finnish research reports that a diet rich in berries can reduce inflammatory markers for metabolic syndrome, resulting in belly fat, blood sugar imbalance, and high blood pressure.

This study also shows that berries support liver health. Linked to overweight and obesity, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease currently affects between one quarter and one half of all Americans. But eating at least 150 grams—or about 0.6 cup—of berries a day lowers alanine aminotranferase (ALAT), a well-established marker for fatty liver by 23 percent.

Dr. Ann Louise’s Take:

The Fat Flush Smoothie Shakedown is exactly the kind of easy, flexible plan you need to turbo-charge successful weight loss this spring—for less than $15 a day, including your food!

The April issue of FIRST for Women highlights how several women reset their own metabolism and shed the pounds they wanted to lose. Here what they said to me about safe, healthy weight loss:

15 WLD A FINAL.indd• Alicia from Seattle, WA, dropped 120 pounds and 8 pant sizes—and finds the Smoothie Shakedown a big boost to her two-year weight-loss efforts. In her 20s, she had battled mysterious weight gain—putting on 60 pounds in only 6 months. When the doctor who diagnosed her with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) said nothing would work, “I was very frustrated,” she admits, but Alicia did not give up. Instead, she read The Fat Flush Plan, got good advice on the Fat Flush Forum, and then tried the Smoothie Shakedown. “I really like Fat Flush Body Protein—unlike other protein powders, I don’t feel hungry using it.” Because Alicia is allergic to dairy, corn, and wheat/gluten, this plant protein powder has been especially beneficial. “This is a way to restore your health, not just lose weight!”

FFW_Christine

• Christine from Ogunquit, ME, lost 7 inches of belly fat in just two weeks. “It’s a miracle. And it’s not about the food, which every other diet is. Dr. Ann Louise’s plan is about metabolism and organ function.” Not only did Christine eventually drop 139 pounds, but also her physician says she no longer needs diabetes or thyroid meds. People think this 42-year-old is a 20-something. “My whole life has changed—my skin, my hair, my cheekbones are popping out, and I’m happy! I can wear little dresses—and love getting compliments on my legs.”

FFW_Nikki• Nikki from Post Falls, ID, shed 75 pounds, “I finally lost my baby weight!” Her secret is carrying a slimming smoothie with her when she runs errands. A former Fat Flusher (who lost enough weight on this safe detox plan to conceive her son), she loves the convenience of  the Smoothie Shakedown. “I have so much more energy and motivation. That’s what everybody wants—to look and do their best.”

For their readers, FIRST for Women created a mix and match smoothie chart. But I want to share the actual recipe that the women profiled used:

Berry Delicious Smoothie
Prep time: 3 minutes Serves 1
8 oz water or Cranberry H20
1 cup fresh or frozen berries
1 scoop Fat Flush Body Protein
1 Tbsp flaxseed oil
1 Tbsp chia or flax seeds, optional
Ice cubes, optional
Combine ingredients in a blender until smooth, then add optional seeds, if desired.

Central to Smoothie Shakedown success, Fat Flush Body Protein contains hypoallergenic yellow pea and brown rice protein to keep you energized and sustained for a full 4 hours. Lysine (an amino acid in yellow pea) helps regulate cellular metabolism—and perfectly balances the sulfur-bearing amino acids in brown rice for complete protein.

While you may be tempted to skip the oil (cutting calories) in this recipe, healthy fats (2 Tbsp a day) are essential for satiety and effective weight loss. It’s also important to drink half your body weight—in ounces—of water throughout the day, but not with meals. (This usually means 10 to 12 8-ounce glasses a day.)

During the Smoothie Shakedown, you’ll enjoy two fiber-rich smoothies plus one healthy meal a day: 4 to 6 oz of lean protein (fish, grass-fed meat, or poultry), grilled or broiled, with one large salad (dressed with 1 to 2 Tbsp of fresh lemon juice or apple cider vinegar), and unlimited veggies.

Because variety is the spice of life, mix up your meals and have your big meal for lunch with a smoothie for dinner. Still hungry? Have a serving of fruit, extra veggies, or a third smoothie.

For Added Support
If you have 50 pounds or more to lose, you can get started on the Smoothie Shakedown for a month and then move on to The Fat Flush Plan or Fat Flush for Life. For healthy, long-term weight loss, you may also need extra support.

The Fat Flush Kit offers a one-month supply of supplements to jumpstart metabolism —especially when you hit a weight-loss plateau—without using harsh stimulants:
Dieters’ Multivitamin and Mineral is a one-of-a-kind formula containing all the nutrients you need every day—but not in amounts that will burden detoxification.
GLA-90, with the essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid from anti-inflammatory black currant seed, helps stimulate metabolically active brown fat for added weight loss, while keeping skin moist and vibrant during dieting.
Weight Loss Formula contains 400 mcg of chromium and 500 mg of Acetyl L-Carnitine to increase your energy and enhance fat metabolism.

I just read “Bone Solutions” I don’t remember the author sorry. In it he talks about a study done with Rats who had bone loss, memory loss, and alzheimers. In rat years and health they were the equivalent of a 70 y/o human. 3 groups were given extracts of either strawberrys, blueberries, or spinach equivalent to either 1 or 2 % of total caloric intake. All 3 groups at the end of 8 weeks had bone density, memory, and mental improvement equivalent to a 40 y/o human. 8 wks in a rat’s life is more than 8 wks in a human life. But if one of those things does that kind of improvement what would consuming all three do?

I love the study you have mentioned in this blog. With berries helping fatty liver, belly fat, HBP, and all these other things how can we say berries are too expensive. I look forward to U-Pick season. Yeah smoothies. Thanks again for your great blogs. Karen

I picked up a copy of First for Women & began the Smoothie Shakedown 2 days ago & I am loving it! I’m not hungry (and I usually am) so I’m excited to see the results. I’m also exercising more so I hope that will help too! Thanks so much!

I too have PCOS and going to start this shakedown as soon as I get the plant protein powder. I would have started it today if I didn’t have to wait for it to come in the mail! I am curious to see if I can actually get rid of PCOS…wouldn’t that be a Godsend for this horrible disease. Are there any other kinds that you can get at local food chains or vitamin stores?

I was wondering if there are plants that contain the protein that is needed to keep the liver functioning in top condition and if there are any vegetables that can be substituted for the meat in the fat flush plan.
    Thanks

I just started today and I needed to know if I could snack…glad I came here, you can! I am a lttle upset that the magazine shows all of these sweet sugary juices (orange juice, pineapple juice etc.) and the actual recipe calls for unsweetened cranberry juice. I am excited and hopefully using the other juices do not effect me negatively. Anyone else try it it with oj?

I am using a plant protein I bought at GNC. I live up in Canada and we don’t have the Fat Flush sold here. I got the idea of the diet from First Magazine. I was told you don’t have to use the Fat Flush for this to work. I’m using a different plant protein but still following her steps. I’ve been on it for 7 days now and I’ve lost some weight. I feel great and have a lot of energy. I also drink a lot of water during the day, plus I work out a lot. I do my cardio and my toning. I don’t know if you can actually lose 20 lbs in 14 days. How is that possible???

Hi, I completed two weeks on this diet yesterday. Did feel a bit tired the first couple of days, but that didnt last. Lost about 5 lbs and two inches around my waist, so not a lot, but I feel great. Loved the smoothies and the freedom of not having to think about what to have for breakfast and lunch! Also, I now realize how much I was snacking inbetween meals!
Since this plan was only for 2 weeks, I’d like to know how to proceed now..ie; beyond the smoothies — if theres a book, which one should I buy?

Debbie I am using Vega from GNC since we don’t get the Fat Flush up here. Its a plant protein too and it works just the same. There is no Dairy Soy or anything else in it. I use it instead with my smoothie’s and follow Ann’s Plan. Its working for me. I have shape to my body. You still have to work out to really lose the weight.

Pratima – Next step is in the Fat Flush Plan book. You can go right into phase 2, which is the weight loss phase, since you just did two weeks of detoxing on the Shakedown. So glad you love the Smoothies. You can continue to use them in phase 2 too.

Teresa – FF Body Protein can be shipped to Canada. You really need to look at the quality of all the ingredients and Dr. Ann Louise has carefully formulated this one.
I’m so glad you are having success. Yes, it is helpful to exercise but people still do lose even when they can’t do a lot of exercise.

I have read reviews and think this looks amazing, can you do the shakes for longer than two weeks if you don’t loose as much weight as you want? Not to meniton is just seems convient for breakfast and lunch, I like the idea of not having to figure out somthing to eat! Also Sharon how did the weight loss go?

    Any answers would be appreciated

I’ve been using another plant protein powder as advertised in the First For Women article. Is it still possible for me to lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks, or is the Fat Flush protein the most effective? The Fat Flush had more sodium and a little less protein than the one I’m using. Today is my first day, and I used 8 oz. of orange juice with my 2 smoothies. Will this have a negative effect on my weight loss? I could really use some helpful insight.

Do I drink the lemon water before the smoothie in the morning or don’t I have to drink it with the SS phase? (It is required for the FF)

Marjorie- The lemon water isn’t a required part of the Shakedown.

Kerri- Lifetime’s plant protein looks like a very good product, but it does contain the sweeteners Fructose and the sugar alcohol Xylitol which Dr. Ann Louise excludes from her programs.

They are always delicious when I make them. I use a little extra cold water, maybe 10oz total, add 1 tbs.flax oil and 1 tbs. either ground flax seeds or chia seeds, 1 oz of unsweetened cranberry juice and a good cup of either frozen mixed berries or blueberries. I blend on high speed until it is creamy.

The cranberry juice really adds a nice flavor and blending long enough makes it great. Sometimes I even add a little extra fruit.

Michelle- “Flax Meal” is too finely ground and can cause constipation. The program recommends the more coarsely ground “Milled Flaxseed” or flax seeds you’ve grounded yourself.

I just started with the LivingFuel Protein. I found this in the First Magazine. I went with the Living Fuel because it also has the probiotics included in the protein. It was consistently out of stock so it took a while to get.
The smoothies taste great — no after taste, not grainy at all. I used the Blueberries, Flaxseeds, walnut oil and reduced sugar orange juice.

Any one use the living fuel protein, did you have any luck? I feel a little hungry now but I am drinking water.

I just started the smoothie shakedown today. I have a lot of stomach trouble and I’m trying to get it under control. I really enjoy the shakes, I use unsweetened almond milk instead of juice, it’s nice and creamy. My problem is that I’m really hungry and a bit dizzy. Will this pass? I want to stick to this plan. Also, does anyone know if I can snack during the day on veggies? It would really help a lot.

Karen- The Shakedown was designed using the Fat Flush Body Protein, so I honestly have no idea if you could get the same results with another brand of unsweetened plant based protein. I know Uni Key’s was designed to Dr. Ann Louise’s specifications to insure that it contains a complete profile of essential Amino Acids from different plant sources. As far as what ingredients you can use in the shake, following the link that Dr. Ann Louise provides in the blog will give you the best results.

I read the first magazine article and was very confused after reading the fat flush plan book. This blog cleared it up For any one thinking of trying the smoothie 2 week plan. I say go for it.I haven’t lost wt yet but what I gained is knowledge about food and chemical reactions and how stress can put our body into a mode that makes us gain wt and retain fluid to protect us from danger which is stress. I have been able to maintain and level off at my present wt. I am sticking to the plan cause i know it will work . My Dr. said that my body will let go and I will begin to notice results I already see the decrease of inches around my mid section. Go for it and don’t give up if you don’t see a huge loss right away. God bless you all in your journey of wt. loss and gaining wisdom on how to care for yourself cause only you can take care of number one

Gilly – In the Fat Flush Plan book or Fat Flush for Life book there are guidelines to keep the weight off and be healthy. There are many additional foods you can eat after you have gotten to your goal weight.

Mackenna – Please follow the recipe guide that comes with the Body Protein. That is the plan that is recommended by Dr. Ann Louise. The plan in the magazine is NOT recommended by her and will not get the same results.
