Well, my friends. I was wrong. Dead wrong.

For years, I never thought coffee was healthy. But, now more than 18,000 studies on coffee have revealed America’s favorite beverage is rich in antioxidants and polyphenols. It turns out coffee has antibacterial, anti-obesity and diuretic properties too, making it a virtual superfood in a cup.

And…Coffee has several other compounds that are exceedingly beneficial to metabolism. A 2017 study demonstrated coffee’s positive benefits for metabolic syndrome. Rats fed a mixture of coffee compounds (caffeic acid, trigonelline, and cafestol) experienced improved insulin sensitivity and reduced levels of fat in their liver.

Coffee beans have one special secret weapon – chlorogenic acid, which is the most abundant polyphenol in coffee. Chlorogenic acid, or CGA, is thermogenic, so it instructs your body’s fat cells to burn their fatty acids for fuel. Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found CGA to reduce blood sugar fluctuations by 50 percent after just five days.

CGA can stimulate weight loss, boost energy, and slash your risk for diabetes and heart disease. A Norwegian study reported that women who drank high-CGA coffee dropped three times more weight than women who consumed lower CGA brews. The average cuppa Joe contains about 130 milligrams of CGA.

  1. Coffee contains powerful antioxidants that blast fat.
The chlorogenic acid that’s naturally found in coffee beans can increase your fat-burning metabolism by up to 50 percent, according to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition. This potent antioxidant stokes up your fat-burning metabolism by signaling your body to rapidly break down the fats in cells and burn them for energy. This means more energy and less fatigue while you burn off fat.
  2. Coffee curbs your appetite.
Your morning java is suppressing your appetite, according to researchers. Consuming coffee high in chlorogenic acid has been shown to play a major part in reducing both food intake and body fat. Two molecules are major indicators of how hungry we feel, as well as how much food it takes to satisfy us: serotonin and ghrelin. You may have heard serotonin discussed in reference to various forms of depression, but what you may not have heard is that serotonin is one of the molecules that makes a major difference in human appetite and satiety levels. This is also why people with depression caused by low serotonin levels may struggle with weight gain as well. A lack of serotonin leads to increased appetite. So the theory is that coffee high in chlorogenic acid contributes to an overall increase in serotonin and therefore, a suppressed appetite.
  3. Coffee fights the battle of the binge.
When your calming, “feel-good” hormone called oxytocin runs low, it results in an increased tendency to binge eat. Studies have shown that the caffeine in coffee helps boost oxytocin levels while it’s perking you up. When researchers studied this connection in mice, they found the mice ate less and exercised more, decreasing their overall weight.
  4. Coffee fights inflammation, resulting in weight loss.
The same antioxidants that make coffee a superfood, make it effective against obesity and weight gain. Obesity has a proven association with inflammation and oxidative stress, which are associated with diseases like type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that regular coffee consumption fights inflammation all the way to the DNA level, shutting off the expression of genes associated with obesity and inflammation, resulting in weight loss.
  5. Coffee enhances fat-burning results with the caffeine buzz alone.
The caffeine in coffee by itself burns fat by sending signals directly to your fat cells telling them to burn fat for energy production. It also enhances the thermogenic properties of bile, which raises the heat in your body and your basal metabolic rate. This signals you to burn even more fat. If you are caffeine-sensitive, you’ll still burn fat with decaf coffee, as long as it is high CGA-containing coffee like Purity Coffee. If you are just not at all into coffee, I recommend adding my Radical Metabolizer supplement to help boost your weight loss potential if you have to eliminate caffeine completely.

Why the level of chlorogenic acid matters…

You may have noticed that I keep mentioning “high chlorogenic acid”. This is a key factor to obtain the study-backed weight loss benefits of coffee. Chlorogenic acid levels depend on where the coffee beans originate and how they’re roasted. Coffee plants grown at high altitudes with extreme climatic conditions (temperature fluctuations, wind, etc.) will produce more polyphenols to protect themselves. Look for beans from Ethiopia, Kenya, Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil, especially in higher elevations.

The only brand of coffee I recommend is Purity Coffee for their commitment to producing the cleanest and healthiest coffee on the planet. It not only contains ideal amounts of chlorogenic acid, but it’s organic and contains the highest level of antioxidants of any coffee beans available on today’s market. And it’s free of molds, pesticides and mycotoxins, so what’s not to love?

If you are a dark roast fan, you may want to dial it down a notch to medium or even light. Once beans are roasted beyond medium, they’ve lost 75 percent of their fat-blasting polyphenols. Also, try to enjoy your coffee sans dairy because it makes polyphenols 28 percent less bioavailable.

And, chlorogenic acid isn’t just for weight loss…

This powerful antioxidant free radical scavenger has received a lot of attention in recent years due to its many positive health effects, and more are being discovered daily as research continues. CGA regenerates kidney tissue, binds opioid receptors in the brain and is neuroprotective. And it lowers the risk of certain cancers, including breast and colon cancer as well as protects DNA, fats, and proteins from oxidative damage, protects the liver and intestines from oxidative injury, and slows the progress of chronic hepatitis. If that weren’t enough, it also lowers blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides, fights insomnia, helps you fall asleep faster, and it acts as an antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal.

An Extra Boost for Your Metabolism

To additionally kick a sluggish metabolism into gear and enhance the ability of coffee to curb cravings, I recommend adding UNI KEY Health’s Radical Metabolizer. It contains these five powerful ingredients:

  • African Mango to promote weight loss especially around your waist and hips.
  • Raspberry Ketones which may help increase production of adiponectin, your body’s fat-producing hormone.
  • L-Carnitine to increase your mitochondria’s ability to burn fat for energy.
  • Green Tea Leaf extract contains a rich source of EGCG to help kick your metabolism into overdrive.
  • Forskolin Extract derived from mint plants to aid weight loss by helping to balance your body’s appetite hormone, leptin.

This combination of well documented weight loss ingredients will help to re-energize your weight loss efforts, especially when combined with my favorite Purity Coffee.
