This holiday season there are many reasons to celebrate.

And although you may notice smoother and glowing skin almost overnight, my new skin care line, BeauCle (which means “key to beauty”) has been in the making for over 40 years. With the long-awaited launch finally here, it’s another reason to rejoice!

My Ultra Sensitive Skin

Truth be told, my ultra sensitive skin was the real reason I became so passionate about nutrition in the first place—even as a teenager. I realized early on that my complexion was a barometer—it reacted to what I ate (and didn’t eat) as well as what I topically put on my face.

Although I didn’t know it back then, I was really beginning my skin care research at the tender age of 14—ever since I saw my first dermatologist in West Hartford, Connecticut. Dr. Miller would prescribe A, C, and E vitamins (even back then), as well as antibiotics like tetracycline to quell the breakouts.  He also recommended that I wash with a liquid, albeit highly drying soap called Phisohex—which was highly touted before it was banned—due to the hexachlorophene antibacterial agent.

To this day, my skin—like so many others—will severely react to chemicals, fillers, mineral oil, detergents, and artificial fragrances and colors of any kind.

I read beauty books and articles by the hundreds in the pre-internet era.

Jheri Redding, the developer of the famed Redken products, was one of my favorite early skin care pioneers. He extolled the virtues of the skin’s protective acid mantle and proper acidity—not alkalinity—when it came to cosmetics and hair care preparations. For decades I remembered Redding’s research. When the skin is acid, it appears to attract blood, giving a rosy glow to the complexion. Pale skin is really a sign of overly alkaline skin making it more paper thin and fragile. All cosmetics and hair preparations should have an acid pH, ideally about 5.5.

Still plagued by red and blotchy skin which was worse during certain times of the month, I became a regular at the mid-town Georgette Klinger salons in New York City—the harbinger of today’s day spas. I became very interested in the calming properties of topical botanicals like chamomile for the skin (the European-style facials at Klinger’s used hot towels soaked with chamomile tea to open the pores).

By the 1980s while serving as the Director of Nutrition for the Pritikin Longevity Center, another piece of the skin care puzzle fell into place. Through many of our A-list clientele, I was introduced to the products of Dr. Erno Laszlo who firmly believed in the topical application of lipids (oils) as an unqualified beautifying agent. It has long been recognized by scientists, dermatologists, and biochemists that the skin is composed largely of protein and lipids.

Since I was seeing so many clients who were following the low-to-no-fat diet model of the 80s and early 90s, I began noting how the lack of the right kind of fats took its toll on the skin first—leaving it more susceptible to redness, extreme dryness, and significant moisture loss. Fats were beginning to emerge as an essential nutrient for the body for internal health—why not include them topically from the outside as well?

In the ensuing decades, I expanded my beauty search to include anti-aging ingredients that would work in harmony with the most hydrating, soothing, and toning beauty-full ingredients I could find. Ingredients with both science and tangible results on their side. Ingredients which were deeply penetrating and non-irritating that would deliver the most cherished essential oils, hydrators, fatty acids, super charged antioxidants, and marine, herb, fruit, and flower extracts.

My Personal Invitation to You
The result is BeauCle—a three-formula product line which contains a stunning array of the most well researched and time-tested ingredients based upon my lifetime experience and research. I have taken exquisite care to select each ingredient, not just on my own background, but to make sure that they meet Whole Foods Market’s Quality Standards and the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database. If you have questions about any of the ingredients, I invite you to contact me directly, please email [email protected]. There is a lot of conflicting information about preservatives on the internet, and I took special care in consulting with the top biochemists and experts in the field of cosmetics throughout the formulation process.

Your Daily Skin Solution
Used daily, BeauCle will help restore and strengthen the intracellular moisture barrier of skin from environmental assaults and chronic dryness. The cleanser, moisturizer and corrective creme are pH balanced and suitable for all skin types. I made sure that all three contain the optimum skin hydrator hyaluronic acid, as well as the omega-rich sea buckthorn which contains more than 60 antioxidants, especially carotenoids like beta carotene, lycopene, and zeaxanthim—particularly nourishing for skin health. Sea buckthorn also offers the rare omega-7 known for its ability to support collagen production.

beaucle_cleanser_lrgBeauCle Purifying Cleanser
My daily soap-free formula gently supports the skin’s natural cell turnover while actively refining and protecting the skin’s delicate balance in a base of healing and hydrating organic aloe leaf juice. The probiotics complex (alpha glucan oligosaccharides) insures the ideal 5.5 pH (to match the skin’s natural acid mantle) and protects against irritants. With this silky cleanser, you might even notice a slight reddening of the complexion. And that is a good thing; it’s your body’s sign that blood flow is increasing to the complexion with a fresh oxygen supply. As in the other two formulas, calendula, arnica, marigold, and cucumber fruit extracts provide additional skin healing, toning and antiseptic properties. The cleanser (as well as the Ultra Hydrating Moisturizer) is slightly scented with a hint of sandalwood oil. Sandalwood is well regarded as a classic choice for dry and dehydrated skin. Very calming and grounding. A scent to please both genders.  More info >>

beaucle' moistureBeauCle Ultra Hydrating Moisture
A luxurious non-greasy moisturizer that infuses your skin with dewy freshness for daytime. I use this all over my body, too. The concentration of hydrolyzed silk, jojoba oil, and squalane (with other synergistic botanicals) provide immediate hydration. Pure jojoba oil—an ancient skin salve that unclogs the pores and preserves natural oils—is most like your skin’s own natural secretions and simulates collagen for a firm and plump appearance. Squalane, made from olives, is an outstanding skin lubricant because it is innately contained in your skin’s sebum already keeping it moist and wrinkle-free and is non-comedogenic. To add to the anti-aging lineup, you will find a stable oil-soluble form of vitamin C for added collagen synthesis and UV protection, as well as high performance marine extracts for sensitive skin. But the crown jewel in this formula—which I have also added in varying amounts to the cleanser and corrective crème—is the legendary Centipeda cunninghammi extract. Used for centuries by the Aborigines in Australia, this extract is highly anti-inflammatory with anti-fungal as well as anti-bacterial properties and provides natural sunscreen protection. According to studies, it is the herb of choice for the topical treatment of psoriasis. There are over 30 patents for the therapeutic use of plants from the Centipeda species for various skin disorders. For supple cell renewal, envelop your skin daily in this youth-restoring moisture bath. More info >>

corrective cremeBeauCle Overnight Corrective Creme
A deeply nourishing creme with 20 beautifying ingredients, the corrective creme features a targeted anti-wrinkle and muscle relaxing ingredient—extracted from the acmella oleracea plant—which can help diminish the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet, and expression lines—rapidly. In one clinical study I reviewed, 75% of the participants reported a dramatic smoothing effect the next day after the initial application due to the myorelaxing mechanism. To help maintain optimum elasticity and skin tone, I added a special blend of peptides that also provide anti-wrinkle effects while repairing and restructuring skin tissue while you sleep. It’s time to unlock the key to ageless beauty. A perfect holiday gift for your friends, your family, and for yourself.

Is this skin care effective in calming Rosacea. Now at the age of 70, I have had Rosacea for the past 7 years and have found very little in the way of reducing flareups.

What do you recommend for eye cream? Most, I feel, are just greasy and unpleasant. Since I am very limited in shopping out in the country, today I purchased the only eye product available at Marshall’s! It is called C+ Eye Zone from PFC Cosmetics, of whom I have never heard. Many foreign languages on the packaging. I was desperate for something. Clinique seems to be available if I drive 50 miles…or Kiehl’s. I would love your advice. Thank you. Phyllis Martin

Mari — We have found that the high borage oil (GLA) component as well as sea buckthorn oil are highly anti-inflammatory and can help quell redness.

Beth – We will be providing pictures shortly. With the holiday launch, we first targeted getting the product itself ready. The full marketing blitz will take place shortly after the new year. Stay tuned!

Phyllis — Our team has been using the Corrective Creme which contains targeted anti-wrinkle agents gentle enough to be used around the eyes that are designed to help eliminate crow’s feet and expression lines while delivering silky moisture to the delicate eye area. The Corrective Creme also contains the oil soluble Vitamin C in the Ultra Hydrating Moisture. A tiny bit can be dabbed right under the eyes.

I’m excited to try this new system. Can I use the cleanser with my Clarisonic?

Hi Kim: Some women in our testing group used the cleanser with their Clarisonic. The cleanser is very creamy so a little bit will go a very long way — economical and pure silk.
