Natural Fixes and Chocolate Kisses

Just did an interview for The New York Times and New York Magazine. Seems detox has hit “mainstream” and they were looking at the book which made cleansing synonymous with healthy weight loss. Its very gratifying to hear from a new generation of journalists who have read Fat Flush, Fast Track, and How to Stay Young and Healthy in a Toxic World. One of them, a lovely gal from New York, will also be doing a piece on hair loss and I invited her and the women she knows who are losing hair (they are in their late 20’s ) to do a TMA so we could get to the bottom of this silent epidemic.

So what else is new?

Did you know that a recent survey demonstrated that nearly 40% of all Americans are using some form of alternative medicine therapy.

Broccoli contains special chemicals that improved lung function with folks that have COPD.

Only two out of five health care professionals get flu shots (I don’t).

Those children born in the autumn have a 30 percent greater risk of asthma than those born other times of the year.

Nearly 25% of us females have incontinence.

Alzheimer’s can be prevented by exercising your brain regularly. OK: Who said, “Your actions are speaking so loudly, I can’t hear what you are saying?” (My favorite saying by the way…but who said it?)

Putting your feet in the ground for only 15 minutes after an airplane flight will banish jet lag, balance cortisol levels and help you sleep better. (I am now sleeping on special “earthing” sheets and sit at the computer with my feet on a “grounding” pad. The concept is that grounding yourself to the earth allows you to regenerate with the earth’s electrons which act as antioxidants and quell free radical oxidative damage. Many individuals who have used these grounding devices have claimed better athletic performance (like Lance Armstrong), a reduction in arthritic pains, no more insomnia, and the ability to put off hip replacements and lung transplants. I kid you not. If this is of interest to you, let me know and I will write more about this which is all part of a new book I am doing. 🙂

The best natural remedies for constipation are exercise, flaxseeds, and lots of water. Vitamin C (remember last week’s MMM) is also helpful at higher doses. I take 10 grams daily because my latest hair analysis showed too much lead. Where is it coming from? I think from my lipstick. Wanna know more, let me know.

Dark chocolate has certainly been given the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval lately. The darker, the better, the thinking goes because of the anti-oxidants chocolate contains. This is why I have approved of Chocolate Whey at least twice per week for all of you 😉

But, don’t overdo too much of a “good” thing because of the high copper content of all kinds of chocolate. Milk chocolate, although a delicious treat once in a great while, is not the best source of the the polyphenol antioxidants because milk interferes with their absorption.

So, for Valentines’ Day — which is right around the corner — have a Chocolate Whey dessert and call it a day. Any great recipes out there? I simply make my whey the regular way, and freeze it right away so that I have a slushy luscious treat for dessert. For those of you who are real chocolate lovers, just make sure your chocolate treat contains at least 70 percent cocoa.

Thought for the week,

Better to strengthen your back than lighten your burden.
