Do Omega-3 Eggs Contain Enough Omega-3 For Dietary Needs?

Are omega-3 eggs worth the money?   Lately I’ve been seeing ads on TV saying that eggs are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. But I’m confused: Do all eggs contain omega-3s, or only eggs labeled as such? And are they worth the heftier price?

You’re not the only person asking that lately! Eggs naturally contain trace amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. But select egg producers are feeding their hens special diets loaded with flaxseed (rich in the omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid) or cold-water algae (rich in the omega-3 docosahexaenoic acid). The result: Omega-3 eggs like Eggland’s Best and Gold Circle Farms contain 100 mg to 150 mg of the fatty acids per egg. I consider these amounts to be beneficial since women should aim for at least 1,000 mg of omega-3s daily. To round out your diet to reach that target amount, you’ll need other omega-3 sources like ground flaxseed, flaxseed oil, walnuts, tuna and wild salmon.
